Big Bass Bait: Texas Rigged Plastic Vs Jig-N-Trailer?

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is headquarters for the Budweiser ShareLunker program. Anglers who catch largemouth bass weighing 13 pounds or more are encouraged to lend or donate the fish to TPWD for spawning purposes. Since the program began in 1986, more than 454 lunkers have been donated.  

Out of 454 entries 189 were caught on Texas Rigged Plastic & 90 were caught on a Jig-N-Trailer.

...and the biggest one was caught on a crappie jig.  I love it!!!

I'm with you Catt, those are definitely big fish baits.

Good info Catt. Never new the exact numbers, but the results don't surprise me.

Reckon that's why some folks only throw hard baits and wire baits, because they don't want to Share their Lunkers... ;D

My mantra,...."you catch on what you throw, you don't catch if you don't go."

If 80% of the people fishing the waters that hold these particular fish are all throwingsoft plastics,....odds are, the sharelunker page will reflect that.  It has nothing to do with the bass preferring them over bait "B".

If Cali had a sharelunker program and you posed this question based on their stats, you'd see a completely different class and selection of baits.

I would think,lol...all stipulation obviously.  

Don't get me wrong, if I ever get to Catt's neighborhood and we hit his lake one night,...I'll be throwing his 10" worm.    I'm opinionated but I ain't stupit  ;D

I'm with Russ here - its a percentage game.  My biggest bass this year have come on a variety of baits, and catching them had more to do with location, structure, and cover dictating the bait I used.  that said, a 10" Power Worm is my favorite "big bass bait."  LOL.

Oh yeah, ain 't it the truth ? swimbaits n 'submerged mesquite trees don 't match up too good.

I would tend to agree with ya Russ if it wasn't for one fact; Texas anglers probably throw jigs more than any other state due to the tremendous amounts of vegetation.

Of the jig fish the majority of those were caught on Alan Henry & Lake Fork (55 of 90).
