Shortly after the Stratos factory opened, circa '83? I bought one of their 345's. A boat that for a 14 footer was laid out very well, had a Mariner 60 on her. After being a rider for 3  years, I entered my first tourney as a boater and finished second with it. I finished in front of some very respectable guys. I said this is gonna be easy, but I need a bigger boat. About 6 months later and before I even sold the 345, I went out & bought a new 18'  375, overpowered and tricked out. Little did I know. Little do I still know. First tourney of my life in '83 I finished 2d. The last tourney of my life in '92 I finished 2d. The 9 years in between was a mediocre blur.

I had a lot of fun fishing tournaments, but had way more fun not fishing them. Probably had something to do with the fact that I could count my wins with just one hand. :-[

A good ole Pro-Craft Fish n Ski. It was pretty embarrassing when you had these 21 foot beauties flyin by you, but I managed to do some damage in that boat.

X2, didn't we all have those stick steer beast with the 60 and 70 hp motors. We thought we were flying. My boat was real close to the one pictured. It was a Duckhawk with a 60.

A 1995 Tracker TX-17 with a 40 HP Merc EFI.

Bought her brand new!!

I had wanted one my whole life and vow to buy another one just for the fact that it was so forgiving to a new angler learning the ropes!!

Alot of memories from the Ol' Girl!

My neighbor's 1992 Ranger.  It's the first bass boat I've ever been in, much less fished from.  I was there the first time he drove it.  I'll never forget the look on his face while we were screaming down the Big C.  I'm going to miss fishing from that boat.

12' jon boat with a trolling motor on the back.

Same thing only mine was 14'. My partner and I took 2nd place out of about 30 teams. That was right at 10 years ago on Milford Lake KS.

It was 1976. I fished with my boss in a club tourney out of his 14' john with a 20hp motor on Wappapello lake in Missouri. I bought my first boat in 1977, a 16' Tomboy bass boat somewhat similar to what Catt pictured with a 40hp Johnson.

I was probably in 1966 or 67 - it was a little two man fiberglass boat (I'm guessing, not more than 6' or 8' long) that my buddy's Dad owned - we would strap it to the roof of my Mom's 1962 Ford Galaxi 500 and she would drop us off at the lake while she went to work and then would come back and pick us up. No motor (big or little) we would paddle out and take turns holding the boat while the other one would work the lilly pads - threw a lot of Cream pre-rigged worms (had to be purple) and Johnson Silver Minnows with a pork trailer.

Good memories!

The local chamber of commerce got up a small "tournement" - they called it a fishing derby - maybe 8 or 10 boats - all had outboards except us - we didn't win, but we al least let 'em know we could catch fish.

1997 Ranger R-17 with a115 Merc. That was my first bass boat before that I had a flat bottom 12' jon and a 10' v bottom aluminum that were not tourney ready. When I decided I wanted to start fishing in tournaments I had to get a "real" bass boat. Before I bought that boat I would fish tourneys with my brother-in-laws Ranger fisherman.

I fished my first tourney last summer out of my 19 foot Carolina Skiff. I modified a giant cooler for a livewell and had three pumps hooked up for it to work right.  The tourney I entered consisted mostly of guys in 21 foot rigs...so I looked a little out of place, but ended up catching a limit and finishing 52 out of 67.  I was just happy not to come in last.  I've since sold it and bought a 19 foot Skeeter, but I'll always remember the first tourney in that boat.

in 2007 i fished out of a 14ft starcraft aluminum with a 9.9 Mercury, no trolling motor and drifted weed flats. We took 1st and 2nd that day and went no more than 500 yards from the launch. Since then I have upgraded but it was fun beating everyone with 50k bass boats.
