SkeetyCCTX Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 As for ethics, what do you think about this? An angler followed a guide friend around during a tourny for the whole event. The rules stated that the guide could not fish, but nothing was said about following a guide around from another boat. Thats what this guy did. He was in first place after day one, and finished 2nd for the tourny and won seveal thousand dollars. Though there was no rule against it, I think this is totall unethical and wrong. The organizers should have taken some sort of action about it, but Im sure he was part of the "in" group! How would you feel about looseing money to a guy whos pattern is to follow around a top local guide? It peed me off! Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 29, 2010 Super User Posted July 29, 2010 It would totally tick me off but if it aint against the rules there's nothing you can do about; what really ticks me off is these guys think they are excellent anglers. I once lost a team tournament to a couple guys who hired a guide to pre-fish for 2 days before the tournament. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 29, 2010 Super User Posted July 29, 2010 That's low. Really low. I'd raise the issue with the TD, and other anglers. I'd be real loud about it, too. Quote

Pretty sure he'll drop the bag back in the water after the second or third report. ;D Quote
Super User Tin Posted July 29, 2010 Super User Posted July 29, 2010 This is why I'm pretty much done with tourney fishing for a couple years. People putting fish in lobster cars in practice then going back for them in the tourney and all sorts of stupid stuff. The worst part is that I have fished 5 tournaments this year and won 2 of them but I have no desire to try to compete with people who bend the rules and do what they want to give themselves an advantage. Ethics do not exist in my state. Quote
boneil Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 of course it's unethical, if that's what happened. But how do you know it happened. If I'm in a tournament, then I would be concentrating on myself and not following around another boater. And I am surely not going to worry about hearsay from other anglers. If there wasn't any rules broken then there's not much that can be done. Quote
gar-tracker Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Guys like that are just proving they cant find fish on their own. I knew a guy that went up the day before and rode around with a guide, I think its not illegal but it shows what your made of. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 What a bunch of crap. Any boob could follow a guide around a win... If I was that guy, I would just feel wrong (well I never would have done it to begin with). Would you want to be "the guy that won with a guide"? People don't care about self image anymore, it's all about the money! If I ever become a well known angler, I want to do it because I did it all myself, not because someone else held my hand! I think the self respect would be better than any fame or money you could make... But that's just me! Quote
SkeetyCCTX Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 The thing that reall ticked me off was that this team was following a top name guide around! No, I did not actually wittness it, but I heard from a very reliable source that it did happen. The next day when I mentioned that I was ticked, my source tried to downplay the whole thing. Apparently, word got out and people were very upset, so the organizers were really trying to keep a lid on what happened. This was a big name tourny with good money on the line and Im sure they didnt want a tarnished event. Im just glad the guy didnt win first place! Quote
craigco24 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I'm a tournament director myself. I've heard the he said she said too much. There are 2 sides to every story. A lot of rumors are started because someone was in a bad mood, jealous, or just doesn't like the person. If you aren't confident enough of what you saw or witnessed to put it on paper and sign your name to it, then I don't want to hear about it. Quote
417Bass Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 If i was to personally witness it i would have snapped a few pics and made a protest about it, but if i didnt see it myself i would take it with a grain of salt. I stoped fishing one circuit over catching two boats swaping fish in a cove, from what i heard they had a habit of doing so...i never fished it again. Some people have a lack of integrity, i choose not to surround myself with those individuals. I have since found a great local circuit with a group of honest individuals, i may not always place high but i trust the other anglers. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 4, 2010 Super User Posted August 4, 2010 I hear this crap all the time. It chaps me off. It's done at times, but i guarantee you if i am positive and can prove it i dang well will report it. I carry a camera with me at all times. You just never know. If i can prove it great,I'll report it and file a claim. If not, i will keep my mouth shut. Quote
