Super User fishfordollars Posted April 17, 2010 Super User Posted April 17, 2010 An angler caught and weighed on certified scales. 14# test , fishing a blueberry trick worm in 4' of water an angler caught an alligator Gar weighing: 197 lbs. I have gotten this story second hand, but word is todd driscol found certified scales that would accurately weigh this monster. I'm sure when he returns he will post all the peticulars. Word I got said it took well over an hour to land the fish. It is also supposed to be in excess of 8'. If any of my facts are inncorrect please excuse me as everything I got was in broken pieces and word of mouth. It will be submitted for a line class record according to the information I received. Koop Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Possibly a state record? I had thought the world record for line and reel was pushing 350, I double checked when I read this and all I'm seeing is 279 and 365 with bow. Only reason I have any idea about this is I pulled one out of lake Mendota here in Madison last summer while having a few beers and catfishing around 1am with some friends (from shore) and had never caught one before so I checked it out... needless to say my 15lber was no record Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 18, 2010 Super User Posted April 18, 2010 I would assume a line class world record, Koop. Not the all tackle record. Quote

Koop Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 It's being certified as a line class record. 14# test Very cool, yeah that is a huge achievement, I misinterpreted the record you were talking about, my mistake Quote
Made-In-TX Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 No doubt about there are some big fish in Rayburn... and a mess load of moccasins too! ;D That is one heck of a catch though, would love to have been there for that. Quote
rabidsquirrel Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 14# test?!?!?!?! Holy cow! That is awesome! Quote
SkeetyCCTX Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 I have seen some very big gars down here in south TX. Quite often at Falcon and Choke I see gar next to the boat while bass fishing that easily go 100 lbs plus! Another place that has huge Gar is the Oso Creek, in a certain secrete section right before it reaches the bay, there are some real monsters in there as well! My grandma has an old black and white of here dad when he was a teenager and he and friends are posing next to a absolute monster. It looks to be close to 9 feet long! Its awesome, but not certified or anything Quote
