Super User 5bass Posted April 13, 2010 Super User Posted April 13, 2010 KVD is a threat anywhere. They'll definitely have to find other ways to catch 'em rather than sitting on spawners all day, so that plays right into KVD's m.o. From what I saw over the weekend on SML, there are only certain areas of the lake that the fish are actually on beds and I've been from one end to the other. I dont think there's going to be enough fish on beds to go around but the moon phase may push some more up as the tournament wears on so you never know whats going to happen. I think 17# - 18# a day average will be hard to beat when all is said and done. Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 I can see a lot of guys smoking them the first day and maybe a few bags in the low 20's then really falling off. Are both largies and smallies doing the deed or just the brown bass 5BL? And for the first time ever, I'm picking Wolak to win, he is a great sight fisherman. Hoping my buddy BJ can turn things around. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 Both but mainly the smallmouth from what I've been seeing. Lots of buck largemouth cruising shallow and I've seen some absolute GIANT females up under the docks so it's not far off. Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 Sounds like everyone will have a limit if the bucks are up and there will be some nice day 1 and 2 sacks. I say upper 60's to win. Quote

1inStripes Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 It would be pretty cool if Guy Eaker won it. Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 15, 2010 Super User Posted April 15, 2010 I would be shocked of weights didn't really fall and KVD didn't finish in the top 10. I'm just praying BJ makes the cut, he is only a couple ounces out!!!! Quote
1inStripes Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 It could be interesting to see what a little rain tomorrow night and cooler temps on Saturday affect things. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 16, 2010 Super User Posted April 16, 2010 It could go either way, really. If the sun stays out like it did today the females will be more inclined to go shallow. If that does happen they'll have some more big bags come across. If it goes the other way (which I think it will on Saturday and Sunday) they'll have to figure out something besides sight fishing. That's when it will get really interesting. If KVD can make the cut into the weekend, things could set up real well for him. Go Ike!! Quote

Super User 5bass Posted April 18, 2010 Super User Posted April 18, 2010 I dont know if any of you caught this quote from Gerald Swindle on stage at the Day 1 weigh in but when I heard him say it, I thought it was hilarious. Quote from Bassmaster.com "I broke off so many jigs trying to catch this one fish, it looked like Christmas in there. I finally caught that 14-inch sucker and threw him back, just to show him who's boss." Gerald Swindle Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 Skeet won by almost 15 pounds. 4 day total of 78-1. He committed to the swimbait late on Day 2 and threw it the rest of the tournament. Here's the final standings from Bassmaster.com 1 Skeet Reese 5 17- 9 5 18-13 5 21-13 5 19-14 20 78- 1 2 Jason Williamson 5 22- 9 5 14- 2 5 15- 3 5 11-10 20 63- 8 3 Dean Rojas 5 16- 7 5 15- 2 5 15- 7 5 14- 8 20 61- 8 4 Terry Scroggins 5 19-13 5 15- 5 5 11- 5 5 14-14 20 61- 5 5 Matt Reed 5 17- 3 5 16-11 5 13-13 5 13- 7 20 61- 2 6 Aaron Martens 5 18- 6 5 15- 8 5 11- 7 5 15- 2 20 60- 7 7 Edwin Evers 5 14-13 5 16-15 5 15- 3 5 11- 6 20 58- 5 8 Bobby Lane 5 21- 7 5 13- 9 5 13- 2 5 9- 7 20 57- 9 9 Gerald Swindle 5 15- 8 5 17- 2 5 12- 8 5 12- 6 20 57- 8 10 Greg Hackney 5 15-13 5 13-13 5 16- 7 5 11- 7 20 57- 8 11 Ish Monroe 5 16- 8 5 13- 1 5 15- 4 5 10-11 20 55- 8 12 Marty Robinson 5 19- 2 5 15-15 5 9-14 3 5- 6 18 50- 5 Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 From watching the videos I guess the big difference was him throwing the swimbaits in less than a foot and a half of water while everyone else was fishing 4'+. Is it common to find those bigger fish that shallow pre/spawn 5BL? Quote
bmadd Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Jerry Rago is about to really see an increase in his sales. First Byron's new bait wins Clear Lake and now Skeet's new bait wins at Smith MTN. Back to back tourny wins from coast to coast haha. Didn't really see that coming. Quote
Bigs Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Im happy for Skeet. Doesnt look like it's gonna be KVD's year unless he gets his act together fast. And that Bobby Lane keeps doing well too, dont sleep on that guy. Congrats to Ish also Quote
Super User 5bass Posted April 19, 2010 Super User Posted April 19, 2010 From watching the videos I guess the big difference was him throwing the swimbaits in less than a foot and a half of water while everyone else was fishing 4'+. Is it common to find those bigger fish that shallow pre/spawn 5BL? Not usually except for when they get up to actually drop eggs. I suspect those fish were out in a little deeper water (3-4') and would run up and ambush the swimbait, like they do shad and bluegill. They'll just wait out a little deeper and use the bank like a wall. Anything that comes between the bass and the wall gets eaten. Quote
