I don't see where people get banning senkos, because they are simple, easy to use lures that produce? It is very common to catch fish on a crankbait with a steady retrieve, Ike loves using his curly tails out of his panic box, it's not to hard to texas rig a worm and drag it across the bottom. The truth is a 5 year old could use any of the baits/presentations I just mentioned before they could successfully use a senko. In the end, you have to find the fish and put them in the boat and a senko doesn't guarantee you that. As for the side imaging, when I first saw them I instantly thought it was cheating. There isn't much difference in just lowering a camera down there. I would be all for every guy having a 150(would also save gas), and the same electronics(nothing great, but sufficient). I hate that many times the man with the most money outfishes the man with more skill. We are supposed to be watching the best anglers in the world on tv not the ones with the most equipment.

I would agree with you on that, it would be annoying and truly no measure of talent whatsoever. BUT what if they threw another bait the same way? I mean I know they don't but I'm sure you could find another scenario somewhere much the same but with a different bait. I'm not trying to stick up for senkos or say that what those guys do wouldn't strike a nerve with me. I use senkos occasionally, but I'm not sure I would even consider them a "secondary" bait for me to tie on.

There are lakes where senkos are actually not allowed? Thats crazy! Sure, its a great bait but isnt so ridiculously good that they should be outlawed.

    Please, do tell what lakes have banned senkos, thats a few lakes I can take off my list to hit.

I love senkos and throw them often.  However, I also throw Crankbaits, liplesss cranks, T-Tigs, C-Rigs, Drop Shots, Shakey Heads, Spinner baits, buzzbaits, spooks, frogs, jigs, jerkbaits , swimbaits, and everything else under the sun as long as it is artificial!

To be a good angler, especialy in Tournys, you have to be able to do everything.  Versitile!  You are fishing a wide variety of lakes under many different conditions.  For example, my trails first tournament was held way down south at Falcon!  The temps were in the 80s and winds calm.  Then, a month later we go up to Amistad and face a lake and conditions that are completly different.  1st off this lake is the deepest, clearest, rockiest lake I have ever seen!  However, I was aware on how to fish it because I practice wiyth many differents

If you are only good with a senko, then what do you do when the fish arent bitting it for whatever reason.  Maybe the y are to deep for it

That being said, I dont feel like they bring you uch a great advabtage that they need to be outlawed.  plus, I have noticed that bites have gone down lately as if bass are wiseing up to what it really is.  You see this happen every few years.  A new lure comes out, and bass are all over it, then it seems to die out for a while before bouncing back

i would like to see no dead fish .. a dead fish brought to the scale be disqualified..dead fish should not count at all in a catch and release tournament..

I'd take it step further and place a 1-pound penalty in addition to disqualifying the dead fish's weight.  This might not prevent all accidental deaths, but it would certainly reduce them.

I also think off-limits should be at least 5 days prior to the tournament (no prefishing the day before). This would even the playing field for those that don't have the luxory of taking several days off work for a tournament.

Dead fish penalties seem too arbitrary.  So its alive at the weigh in....I've seen fish that were counted as five-alive at weigh in, but dead at the release point.  I realize that all bass tournaments should be catch and release, and will do anything in my power to care for the fish, but the penalties are goofy.  Our club is only a 4 oz penalty, rarely does it make a difference, though rarely is there a dead fish.  Get rid of the penalty, and mandate a live well care program.

MY club had a one pound penalty for dead fish but changed it this year to a quarter pound penalty. I think it was a big mistake. Most of our tournaments are on the St Lawrence river during the middle of summer. Obviously smallies are the main target and during this time most fish are caught in 30+ feet of water.  Last year, a lot of our guys were bringing in dead fish to the scales and it was even addressed by our director. Now, with such a minimal penalty, I think we'll be seeing more fish kills. If you're not going to enforce harsher penalties for dead fish, the times and/or locations of certain tournaments should be changed.

That would be a great way to put everyone on a more level playing field to just show up and fish figuring out the lake would be challenging but fun! and I'm all for banning senkos or senko style baits in tournaments.

I do think it would be nice to level the playing field down to skill alone.  I like what the MLF did (does?) with identical rigs for some tourneys.

 

I always thought the way the old Classics were run, with a secret location was pretty cool.

Fourscore and nine years ago, we were afraid side imaging was unfair.  Almost a decade later, I agree with everything I said.  I don't fish too many tournaments anymore, though.

I definitely think technology is getting to the point where there will need to be some rules set. I actually feel like we are there as far as SI, live scope, 360 ect. I think its important to have some mystery left In fishing.

However, where the unfair advantages come into play is in these so-called "amatuer" tournys!  Thats a joke!  Alot of these TX tournys have such good pay-outs that there is a population of guys that basically make a living off of fishing them.  For instance, every BassChamps event has at least a $20 k payout for first place.  If you take the time to look, its the same handfull of guys that win the majority of BassChamps events every year.  Sure, some other names are mixed in here and there but look at the overall picture.

These guys are full time fisherman and spend alot more time at their craft than the guy that has to work a 9 to 5! 

I think that a seperate division should be made for these types of anglers and they should not be allowed to fish in "real" amatuer tournys.  I would like to see someone create a good trail, with a good pay-out, for the working fisherman!  Im talking about guys that can prove a 40 hr workweek, or an income other than fishing!  Right now, the weekend fisherman just does not have much of a realistic chance competeing against guys that fish everyday for a living!

This is exactly why I joined Slay Nation. It's a trail and is kayak, canoe, and job boat only. Sure I can rig a hummingbird and Livescope on my jon boat, but going to take a long time to get to the other side of the lake!! So have to fish smart and really pick apart each area you fish. Its trolling motor only so big cross lake runs aren't an option.

I would like to see a limit on the number of screens/transducers on the console and front deck. One each and anglers can swap them day-to-day if they want during a tournament.

 

The video-game fishing is weak IMHO.
