preach4bass Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Byron Velvick won the Elite Series event this week at Clear Lake. He's had a great comeback from a few years ago. Quote
ProCrafter Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Very well played Byron!!! Also a testament to bass fishing in general... A 70 year old and a 19 year old in the top ten!!! HOW MANY SPORTS CAN BOAST THAT!!! ;D Quote
Mattlures Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Byron is one of the nicest guys in the sport. He has been due for a long time. I am very happy for him! Quote

Mattlures Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Yes without me paying him or asking him to. I think just about all of the pros are cool but Byron is the easiest to just walk up to and start talking. I introduced my wife to him at Icast a few years ago and she was all excited because he was on that dumb bachelor show. One of these days I am going to take a trip out to Amistad and make him fish with me. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I hate to say it, but I always had the perception that Byron was somewhat of a joke to the whole professional bass scene (I guess because of his Bachelor participation), but he proved himself with this win (which is something Gerald Swindle may want to do sometime soon). LOL @ your Swindle comment Quote
Mattlures Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Byron can fish. When he first started fishing the elites he was also doing alot of shows for ESPN. He spead himself to thin. Now that he can mostly worry about just fishing he is doing alot better. If you guys ever get a chance to meet him I recomend it. He will talk to you like an old friend. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted March 23, 2010 Super User Posted March 23, 2010 Yeah, I had a couple drinks with him, Bruce from Basstrix, and Mickey at the HBC1. Pretty entertaining. Quote
