Super User Root beer Posted February 21, 2010 Super User Posted February 21, 2010 Alabama is national champion on football field and on the water. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/classic/news/story?page=b_classic_10_CollegeClassic_TideWins Quote
bmadd Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Not exactly the National Champion. There are two National Championship tournaments each year and this isn't one of them. The way this format is setup is that at least on of the teams will be near the Bassmaster Classic location each year. For instance, next year Alabama will travel to Louisiana to fish against one of the local schools down there. Not to imply cheating, but the fact that this may have started this year with Alabama. Tripp Weldon, the tournament director for all Elite Series tournaments two sons fish/ed for Alabama. Hank, the oldest now works with College Bass and was behind the College Classic. Ben was a member of the Alabama team competing. Quote
etommy28 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 they will fish VS LSU next year. there was not cheating or anything of that sort, it was good fun, I know a lot of those guys. One thing I do want to say and I know the Audurn guys who are on here are gonna jump on me but in a tourny that they knew should have been close, you gotta be back on time! Quote
bmadd Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Definitely wasn't implying they were cheating. Just saying Alabama has serious connections which is why I think it started with them. I had no idea that Auburn arrived late until just now. How many pounds were they penalized for being late? Quote
etommy28 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 not enough to make a difference in the win or loss but i think 3 or 4 pounds. but still. and just to toss this in, yes hank weldon is the one who set it all up and does a lot, but he was so busy, I helped run the college fishing booth, and saw him maybe 20 mins, and he was not ever at the weigh in I dont believe. he was working behind the scenes for the bassmaster classic. bmadd Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Again, I really like Hank. He's done a lot through College Bass since he graduated and I don't want to imply any wrong doings on his part or Tripp's or BASS or UA College Bass. I could be wrong, but I think Tripp and Hank's connections to Alabama, is why the College Classic started with Alabama. I know they are one of the top programs and they make good showings at most tournaments. All of them I have met have been great. No bad accusations on my part. Quote
etommy28 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I do tend to agree with you that because it was in alabama is most likely had some thing to do with starting this year. Quote
