Matt Kremers Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I am a bass angler from upstate NY. Just got involved in tournaments last year through FLW College Fishing and I love it! For spring break this year I am driving to Florida. On the way down I want to do a tournament (2/27) and I will be doing the Weekend Series tournament at the Harris Chain the second weekend (3/6). My question is which of the above tournaments should I do the first weekend? My goals for these tournaments are to LEARN and get experience that will make me a better tournament angler. Catching a 10 pounder would be awesome (duh!), but I more want to come out of the tournament a better angler. I am sure that I would learn more in the Okeechobee AFS, but is it worth 3 nights in a hotel and all other costs associated with it? I am a poor college kid getting ready to graduate, so I can make the money back before too long. I just want to make sure it is worth the extra investment. An extra $200 could also go towards a new combo, so I have to be careful where I spend money. Thanks for your time! Quote
kikstand454 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 i think they are all good choices. maybe you should base your decision on which one would be more likely to prepare you for the second tourney? Quote

c17Lat Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 It doesn't seem like you could go wrong with any, but since you are fishing a weekend series event the weekend after, go with the weekend series tx. This way, If you make some good money in the first two tournaments you might have enough to fish the rest of that division's weekend series and do well in the points race. Will you be fishing the college event on mt. island lake? This lake is connected to wylie, so it may be similar. Also you may run into guys down there who could give you info on mtn island, so you might want to fish the wylie tx instead. I fished my first flw college event after 2 bfl's. The bfl's don't even come close to being as fun as the college tx's! I can't believe they are not letting us seniors fish this summer's events! Will you be fishing the northeast bfl's? Quote
salmicropterus Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 My info is that the Okeechobee AFS is filled up-I heard that from someone who tried to enter yesterday so that may not be an option. You should check it out for yourself. Besides, that series, the old Stren, is a pretty high level to break in at, particularly at a lake like Okeechobee. Whatever you do good luck and hope it goes well for you Quote

I graduate at the end of February, so I will not be eligible for any of the college tournaments any more. It really frustrates me because I love those tournaments, but I guess Kevin doesn't want it. I may do Wylie to help out my teammates who will be fishing Mt Island now that you mention it. There are so many teams this year it looks like were only getting one boat in per tx > I plan on doing some of the Northeast BFLs (Potomac, Cayuga, Oneida) and the Western NY Weekend Series tournaments. Should be a great summer! For all that are responding, thank you! Please drop a note to why one lake would be better than the others. salmicropterus, I will look into that. Thanks! Quote
Jepu Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I am already registered for all of the Western NY Weekend Series events. I was also thinking about doing some of the northeast BFL's. Maybe I will run in to you at some of the tourneys. Good luck when you go south. Quote
