Nickman Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I see people writing about ripping crankbaits through weeds. My question is this. Do you quit on a cast when the bait has weeds on it or keep fishing it. I have generally quit but maybe that is not the right approach. Quote
fivesixone Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I always bring it in to check for weeds if it doesn't feel like it's running right. I don't use crankbaits too often though, so I'd like to know this as well! :-? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 12, 2008 Super User Posted September 12, 2008 When it looses it's action because of the weeds , you are done. Reel it in and start over. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 12, 2008 Super User Posted September 12, 2008 Sometimes I use a crank to locate weeds, especially fishing from shore with no electronics, and bringing some back is a good thing. Then I use weedless baits. As far as "ripping" off the weeds, You've got to use a bait that just skims the top of the weeds, not on that runs right into the heart of the slop. I like baits with a quick rise. When you feel the bait hang, stop reeling, and wait a half second. Then pop the rod and wait again. Continue the retrieve. You sometimes get bit after the initial snap of the rod. Quote
S I G M A Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 If you can feel that you hooked up on too many weeds and it has killed the action of the crankbait, you're done. Quote
TrippyJai Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 yeppp... then try a spinnerbait... Quote
