Excellent decision.  I have been with a ton of idiot boaters who can't care for fish and the less fish in the well, the less fish die.

Tommy, whether you have 3 or 5 fish limit, if you catch a big fish, your going to cull a smaller one out.  Also, catching a limit doesn't mean you have had made a bad day good.  It's all about weight.  You can have 3 fish that go 3lbs.  People get so caught up in their "limits"  Go catch 3 big ones and you will beat the guys with 5 tournament sized fish.

I honestly would love to see a 3 fish limit in all tournaments, especially during the summer.  I don't fish club tournaments in the summer because of how many fish don't make it.

I see what your saying, but the opens are basically the same as strens on the FLW side. At that level when your paying a grand to enter the tournament. I am sure there are a few idiot boaters, but far less then a BFL.

Robby, I see where your coming from, but I see a ton of the guys on the Elite Series still treat there fish like crap.  I realize that in there situation, there's a ton of money on the line but with the Opens and Strens, I just think the 3 fish limit is a great idea, especially when those Summer tournaments roll around.  I can't tell you how many dead fish were at my BFL on Lake Eufaula this last June.  Had it been a 3-4 day like the Opens or Strens, you would have easily seen over 100 bass die in that tournament alone.

I think your right Ryan. The 3 fish limit would be great for the fisheries specifically in the summer tournaments. I think my problem is I am used to the tournaments around this area. The heat can still be a problem, but I doubt that it is anything close to what you guys face down south. I think I just like the 5 fish limit due to the fact that it is something to strive for.

It makes life easier if you have a boater who back-boats you all day.

Eh I don't know I'm neither for nor against it.  There are ups and downs to both sides.

I havent been in a single bass boat that could hold two 20 lb limits safely in the summer time.

Then again, BASS hates the west, so they wont have to worry about big bags stuffing up the tanks. ;D

yeah i have seen many 20 pound limits come out of live wells totally healthy, and Fourbizz, in Florida ,at least with the people I fish with, 20 pound limits are not any where near rare. in fact I would say about 40% of tournys i fish take limits over 20 to win and several a year take 30.

I think it is great for us smallie guys in summer. Bags over 15 pounds in the summer are common and bringing those fish up from 20'+  into mid 70's surface temps to air temps in the 80's is just brutal. Then in a livewell with other fish and possibly big waves on the ride back really bangs them up. They are much more fragile than largies so I like the lower limit.

Wise beyond your years.

I know the pro's need 5 to up the weight totals, but I wish they would go to 3 for everything, year round.

imo, it doesn't change much for the co-anglers, but if they go further and bring it to the boater side,,it will change their strategies, have to go for big fish,,not just quick limits then cull up...

Guys, fish kills should NOT be an issue at any tournament, period.  Proper care of your fish is all it takes, but many anglers either don't know how to do it, or won't.

Here's a video that explains everything you need to do (and how) in order to keep your fish healthy in your livewell despite warm temperatures....

Personally I think the 3-fish limit caters more to those fisherman that get lucky. Almost anyone can get lucky and catch 1 decent fish during a tournament setting but it actually takes skill to catch 5 tournament quality fish. When you drop the number of fish from 5 to 3 you allow luck to play more into the results than skill. I am always more impressed with the guy who can catch 5 fish averaging 3-4 pounds than the guy who caught one giant and 4 (1.5 pounders). The guy who catches 5 (3-4 pound fish) did more homework on the lake and had more skill involved.

Also, when it comes time for bedding season a 3-fish limit puts a premium on finding that one big sow and again takes the skill out of locating a group of true tournament quality fish.

I think the 3-fish limit stinks in general and totally agree that fish care should not be an issue. I am in Tampa, FL and fish in 95 degree weather every summer and in my 3 years of tournament fishing have had 2 dead fish. It all comes down to paying attention to your fish and making sure to refresh your water throughout the day, treat it with Rejuvinade or a like product and put some ice in from time to time. Really all not that hard to do to keep our resources healthy to be caught again!

Lucky?  I dont think so.  Sure, there will likely be more limits weighed in, but those who are on good fish will still likely come in with the bigger bag. I wish I could get lucky every tournament and catch one big fish.

You dont think the guys that are "good" get lucky sometimes?

Oh, and Rejuvenade sucks.  Use Catch and Release or Please Release Me by Surelife.

Rejuvenade is basically speed for the fish, increasing delayed mortality.  The Surelife products contain a sedative and slime coat protection. Thought ya might like to know...

Been saying this for a long time, glad someone else feels the same as I do.  Rejuvenade actually stresses the fish out even more, bounce all over the walls.

But anyway, I digress...  I think the 3 fish limit is a good thing.  I think that this is just going to be an opinion based issue with no supporting facts or statistics to argue either way.  It really doesnt matter which side of the fence any of us are on and there can be compelling arguments for either side.

So I'll just weigh in and say I'm for it, without giving any details.

Going to a 3 fish limit is not an issue for Co anglers, they are there honing their skills and craft.

This does not fix any problems.

The boater still has one well to put his 5 fish in. and 5 dinks are not normally issues, but going to Falcon and (5) 8lbers in one well would be an issue.

How does limiting the co's limit to 3 stop over crowding in the boaters side?????
