Caught a bass today on a Fluke. I casted out, jerked hard, paused again, jerked again, and the bass nailed it. What are your favorite retrieves for it?

Alternating twitches and pauses, and letting them sink next to cover or in holes in the weeds and at the edges. And every so often walking the dog when I want a weedless topwater.

I just started fishing with them. I did a search on the forum and found a bunch of topics. Well the other day we went out and I rigged it T rig weightless. Threw it out and let it fall, moved my rod tip a lil bit, reeled in the littlest bit of slack and WHAM a huge 1 pouner    Next cast I threw it out and did the same thing and WHAM HUGE 1.5 pouner. 3rd cast threw it out did same thing nothing, reeled in slow and stopped and then I had to un tangle my sons line and reel up slow and feels like weeds and then it aught back. I get it up and a 5 pond bass  ;D  After that I got nomore fish but that was fun. I was fishing them in weeds/hydra, the baby bass color. Next time I go I will be using them again.

I like to use the fluke in two ways #1 as a "do nothing" bait. I just cast it out next to cover let it sink slow, and work it back to me with a lift-twitch-twitch-fall retreive. I let the bass tell me if they want a long or short pause between twitches. I also use it in a "walk the dog" manner over top off submerged weeds and other cover.

As erratic as you can make it. Let the fish tell you what they want.

i generally retrieve it similar to how i do a hard jerkbait only slower.  i dont use the reel to move the bait.  jerk jerk reel to pick up slack jerk jerk jerk reel to pick up slack and continue.

When I fish a soft swimbait like the fluke I use EWG hooks.  If im fishing deeper then 4+ feet I usually put a split shot on the bend of the hook.  After I cast it out I wait a few seconds to let it hit the bottom, then i'll fish it pretty erratically short tug then pause then few hard jerks, then let it sit for a 10 seconds then a twitch then a hard jerk.  But I stopped fishing a weightless fluke since the chatterbait, i've been slow rolling it and having real good results.

Like any good soft plastic the fluke can be fished a number of ways, but the way you described would be considered the "classic" techniques for that bait.

The Zoom Super Fluke in Pearl White and Smoky Joe are on my list of the top 5 for smallies on the river at times. Our bass in MD, PA and VA seem to love them. A lot of guys I know use a barrel swivel about 6-8" up the line but, I personally use a Gremlin very light 1/32 or 1/64 weight placed where you would put a bullet sinker, right at the nose. I kind of let it sink to about a foot or so off the bottom and give it a gentle twitch from time to time. I don't get very aggressive with them most of the time and just let them do their thing. This is not always the  case as just letting them fall a foot of so and fast twitching it can be a killer as well. A little dip of the tail in chartreuse dye also seems to kick them in gear at times, as well. Let the fish tell you what they want in that given time. Every day is different it seems. Good luck.
