The Next KVD Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 So I'm currently watching the FLW event on Guntersville, and I don't know if its me or the show but the commentators are so ANNOYING!!! Every time the angler says something, makes a cast, or sets the hook they got to comment on it by stating the obvious! I can see that David Walker just set the hook, you don't have to comment by saying, he hooks up with a good one (note its a dink), he needs to get him in the boat. When they make a comment they wait for the angler to do something else before they make another comment, so theres a long pause and its bothersome! Also, when the commentators laugh, it seems either really cheessy or fake! I'm sorry but just because David Fritts says he can't see in the shade of the bridge doesn't mean you can laugh because a normal person doesn't find any humor in it. I also hate how they switch anglers every 45-60 sec. They do a few things right on the show, like describe what lure and line test the angler is using. But I think I'll stay with BassMaster Elite Series. Sorry guyz just had to vent. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted April 5, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted April 5, 2009 I think some of the anglers are just as good but the show production is not even close to the Elites. Even though I try, I can't watch it either. Quote
darrengee1 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 At least you get to watch it. I am still watching reruns from the 07 season on WFN. I don't get VS. up here in Canada Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I will certainly agree on the commentators, they seem to be stiff and scripted. I would be willing to bet that either the commentators start to loosen up (if they can) or they will find some new ones. It will be hard to compete with Basssmasters if the commentators do not lighten up and make watching the show a little more interesting. Just to let you know I watched the show for about 15 min until I decided that washing dishes would be more fun! ;D ;D Quote
aarogb Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I was also watching the show on Sunday. I forgot the announcers name but one guy his voice is SOOOOO annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also agree with you about them stating the obvious, I believe that every TV annoucer does that. It's not just in FLW but also in BASS and some news channels. Quote
shootermcbob Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Jerk Bait Junkie, That must be really bad if you had more fun washing dishes. Be careful with that, I have told my wife the makers of dish soap put allergens in their products to prevent men from washing dishes. If I do, I will break out in a terrible rash and not be able to cook, clean, help with laundry, or go to work. Unfortunately, my wife is really smart and isn't buying it, but I thougt it sounded really good. Quote
arul Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I have been complaining about this for a long time. I give them credit for filming in HD. It looks beautiful and they have some great camera shots. Now they just need to step up the commentary, and get the pros to talk to the camera and talk about what is actually happening with the cast or pattern. STILL, the only thing I am learning from their telecasts is how to say "He's go one hooked up here". gawd...stop saying that :'( :'( All the show is, is watching fish landings. Show us the in between stuff, when they are working casts, or the bait. Are none of these guy's trained like the Elite's to give a rundown of what is going on to the camera while fishing? Or are they just not showing it. PLUS there is no drama in what is going on. It just needs help... Hey Producers! Private Message me, I'll get that thing worked out for you in no time... Heck, even Bill Dance sprinkles in some pointers between his replay reel of fish catches. Quote
arul Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Just to make my point- Watched this weekends Bassmasters- Ike sitting there talking to the camera, while fishing, talking about his pattern, the bluff ledges, the corner of the dock where he pulled as fish out of sawdust, etc. Also, I noticed Bassmasters builds great drama by letting the catch play out without commentary. I mean when Kito Kariyama (sp?) lost that fish in the bush, there was no voiceover commentary, but the coverage/production played out perfectly to tell the viewer the magnitude of what just happened. (I saved that on Tivo to make myself feel better when I lose fish) Good stuff that Bassmasters. FLW take notes please-I have such high hopes now that you are spending some money on the Camera work! Super User South FLA Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 No ESPN Glitz with the helicopter views and the crazy anglers screaming, but I thought it was alright. I can't believe Scott Martin Zeroed with all the darn hits he as getting, don't you think he should have switched to a hollow body frog and slow down a bit, or threw some follow up cast immediately instead of going GOSH did you see that I can't believe it! dickenscpa Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I'm phenominally horrible at boycotting anything so I'll still watch just cause I love watching fishing, but I agree with everyone's assessment. People can say what they want about Zona, but he's a pretty good commentator and TBH, mine and his sense of humor line up perfect. I love watching his World's Greatest Fishing Show. I'm just like him on my boat. Have been all my life. I know I get on my Dad and brother's nerves, but it's my boat.LOL! The Elite coverage let's the angler talk more and when they do, it seems like good advice or they are saying something interesting as opposed to "One more in the Foldgers Pot!!" over and over. I'm not critisizing though too much, I'm just an ole CFO counting SOMEONE ELSE'S money and they're fishing for a living. :'( Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted April 21, 2009 Super User Posted April 21, 2009 Wow, most of us older folks never had 24 hour outdoor channels to watch most of our lives. Any bass fishing, FLW or BASS beats none at all. Kinda like the days of only two channels, 3 actually, abc, nbc, cbs, but one had to be tuned in by going outside and turning the aerial. We always got Notre Dame football in Texas on NBC, it was better than no football even though it wasn't a Texas team playing. Count your blessing, most of the time back in those days, FLW wasn't a thought then, you had to wait for the next issue of BASS to come out to see the results. Like I said, any bassin is better than no bassin. Quote
drake987 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 All I will say is if I had to choose between programs to watch I would never see another flw event, extremely ho-key, hat cam is terrible. I got dizzie watching this one night, nothing against the commentators but I think they need guys that love tournament fishing to report on it> Bass went down hill when they lost the federation but as far as the shows, elites all the way. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 7, 2009 Super User Posted June 7, 2009 I'm with Matt on this one..if you guys think the WFN ect is bad, try watching motorcycle roadracing (AMA) compared to it's Euro counter part, I hate the announcers, but am truely glad I can watch it vs not watching it...btw, vs still shows older (2007 and newer) tourny's. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 21, 2009 Super User Posted June 21, 2009 actually, i watch to see what baits the pros are throwing. i don't pay any attention to the announcers. Quote

Super User 5bass Posted June 24, 2009 Super User Posted June 24, 2009 If you're watching tournament coverage to learn/get something out of it, you shouldn't be paying that much attention to the announcers anyway, at least not enough to be annoyed about it. The mute button works wonders. I use it all the time whenever Michael Irvin is on TV. Quote
