Marc711 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 This summer I have done really well Float-N-Fly style fishing for largemouth, from 3' to 12' deep. Anyone else use this tactic for largemouth? If so, what's your favorite jig? Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted September 1, 2008 Super User Posted September 1, 2008 My favorite is not a "jig". My favorite is a 3/32 oz Gopher Mushroom head with a 4" Producto Spring Worm. I have never tried this technique in shallow water. I have not used this type of presentation very often, actually....only a few times in my entire life but the more I think about it........ Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 I tried this a couple of years ago. I used to fish for crappie every spring to start off the fishing season, and my best producing rig was a small tube/jig below a float. I caught enough bonus largemouth to make me try it when the water warmed enough for bass fishing. I tried it quite a few times with different sized baits, floats and weighting, and all depths. I couldn't make it work for me. I'd be interested to hear more. Give us some details, please. Quote
kayl. Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 An article I cut out of an old Field & Stream gives these tips/details: Use a bobber stop & bead with a small slip bobber. Tie on a jig (they recommend the Spro Phat Flies, but any hair jigs will do as long as you can tie them on and keep them horizontal. If your jig doesn't weigh enough to pull the line through the bobber and pull it up right, ad a couple of small split shot 18" above the jig. I didn't try it last fall/winter, but am going to give it a shot when it gets a bit colder up here. Quote
fats69 Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 A slip bobber is not the correct bobber to use for Float and Fly. Go to Punisher Jigs on the web and they have the F/F bobber there. Best jig is one I tie myself orange head, hot pink craft hair and mallard flank with a small bunch of crystal flash in the middle. Fatman Quote
