Bassnajr Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Just watched my Sunday fishing shows and saw IKE on the FLW as the Stren Northern Division champ. What is up with him? Is he doing both B.A.S.S and F.L.W. or left B.A.S.S. for good?? ajr Quote
The Next KVD Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 The Stren event wasn't interfering w/ a B.A.S.S. event so he had time to fish it. Quote
Bassnajr Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Good business decision. Now he fishes the Forrest Wood Cup for 2 million right in his backyard....NICE!!!! Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Ike started fishing in the Flw BFL's which used to be called red mans. So technically he left the FLW and not B.A.S.S. Quote
Md Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'm not a big fan of Ike, but it was a very smart move on his part. I'm sure he knew had a great chance of qualifying for the Cup through the Northern Strens. He was fishing water he was very familiar with against competition not as strong top to bottom as the Elites. Plus, I believe four out of the five Strens that he fished were after the Elite series was already over with. Why not? Anything to qualify for the Cup...that by the way is in Pittsburgh...where he was less than 3/4 of a pound from winning the Classic in '05 over VanDam. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 5, 2009 Super User Posted January 5, 2009 Several Elite guys fish FLW's when they have time. Ike actually won a Stren event and a nice $25,000 check a couple months ago on Kerr Reservoir. If FLW keeps raising the prize money every year like they have been, you'll most likely see more Elite guys crossing the line and fishing both. I don't blame them at all. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 5, 2009 Super User Posted January 5, 2009 Good business decision. Now he fishes the Forrest Wood Cup for 2 million right in his backyard....NICE!!!! Where he finished 3/4? when the Classic was there in 2005... He also won 100k on the Potomac in an FLW event a few years ago rockin the banana boat. Quote
GSU_Fishing Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 The classic was in Pitt in 2005... Van Dam won with Ike close behind. I think it was one of the best Classics ever...It was tough fishing and really challenged the anglers!! Ike as many of the Elites fish both sides...Its smart business...They have to pay bills and feed the family too!! Quote
Md Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Here's a couple of pics from my camp during the Stren 1000 Islands. The first is Ikes girlfriend driving his rig after SHE backed it down the ramp and pulled him out.(Gotta find me one like that!) The second the evening meeting before the final day taken from my buddies deck. I must say, all of the FLW people are fine folks! Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 12, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 12, 2009 Hey that boat looks familiar. : Quote
got1on Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 They have mortages and mouths to feed too. It is just on a larger scale. I have had the chance to get to know a few of the elite series anglers and from what they have said they have to go where the money is and where they feel there "money water" is. I dont care for the flw series as much as the elite series but I don't hold anything against a pro angler for "switch'n gears". Just my 2 cents. 8-) 8-) Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 13, 2009 Super User Posted January 13, 2009 I don't blame any of them. They are all trying to maximize the dollar. Quote
txbass1 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Fred Couples has been playing the Sept-Dec schedule for years to make big $$...Tiger plays in Dubai (and builds a course there) for the same reason.....make it while you can. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Man that boat is awesome. I cant wait to wim the lottery and buy me one. Quote
jimmieO Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 I just can't get over the big screen tv he's got mounted right next to the console...I would love to see what one of those things can do, and just how clear and detailed it is. Quote
