Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 26, 2007 Super User Posted January 26, 2007 For those of you out there that throw Bandit cranks, just curious how the 100 series bouncing off timber and other cover. Are they a good choice for that application? Quote
bassnleo Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I tried the 100's in that same application. They seem to have a fairly tight wiggle and for me they didn't deflect all that well, I got hung up quite a bit. I have had better success with Manns 1 minus or a Lucky Craft BDS series bait. Those baits have a wider wobble and square bills that help to deflect rather than hang. Quote
jdw174 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I'll second the Baby 1-minus. Those things will go thru wood like crazy. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I've had no trouble bouncing a Bandit 100 off of timber. The square bill is where it's at. As long as I use any crankbait that has a square bill, I dont seem to have trouble at all......... ;D Quote
Rob G. Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 They are not bad, but there are better. One of my favorites is made by Storm. It is about twice as big as a Bandit and has a larger, short square bill. It also has enough weight to be able to pitch it very accurately and with good distance on a MH graphite rod. This is on of the few applications where I use a fast tipped rod for crankbaits. Quote
Hawgin Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I can't answer your question about bandits, but the best cranks I have found for this are the Timber Tigers. They have a thicker bill, and a great body design that protects the hooks from snagging. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Ron hit me in the head with one this summer and it bounced off NO PROBLEM WITH WOOD Quote
The_Natural Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 As said, they aren't bad, but don't come through cover like a BDS 1. The Bandits are cheap enough that I don't mind losing one now and again, so I'll throw one anywhere. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 26, 2007 Super User Posted January 26, 2007 Anyone tried Norman Fat Boy's in wood? They look like they'd work well. I have one but I haven't tried it in wood yet. Quote
mdangler Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Don't get me wrong I love bandits, but when bouncing off timber i like a fatter crank. Its just preference. Thats why I like the mann's minuses Quote
Chris Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Bandits work well in and around cover If you are looking for a step up the CS crankbait that Whittler makes would be a good choice. The reason why I bring it up is because it was made to be fished in heavy cover. CS stands for "Chris Special" I personally had a lot of input in the development of this bait and it has my name on it. You can take a bait like a Bandit and use it to bounce off cover but in the long run it is better to use a bait that is designed to do a specific job and this series is it. The more you fish crankbaits around cover your going to find that wood baits do a better job. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1167349523 Quote
