Club has their tournament meeting/draw.  Initially there are 7 boaters and 5 non-boaters.  Boater #7 switches to non-boat so we'll have an even number (it was a buddy draw).  Everyone draws their partners and all seems good.

Tournament day comes and boater #7 shows up with his boat in tow and his regular partner with him.  The boater he drew at the meeting (boater #6) shows up with his regular partner, who was at the meeting at said he wasn't going to fish the tourney.

#7 and his partner win, #6 and his partner finish second.

FWIW, #7 is also the tourney director.  IOW, he does what he wants, when he wants.

We have these rules in our club for our club tournaments.

1.  You have to be at the meeting or have a friend declare you are fishing the next tournament or you will not be allowed to fish the tournament.

2.  If you are drawn out as a nonboater you must remain a nonboater, unless there are extenuatiing circumstances, which have never occured in the history of our club.

3. Should a boater fail to arrive for the tournament his nonboater will be placed with another boater.

4.  If a nonboater fails to arrive for the tournament his boater can fish alone.

Simple rules.

Sorry to hear that your club rules were not followed.  A new precedent has been set, which may not be good for future tournaments.

Clicks and playing favorites can cause the death of a fishing club.  :'(

What does your Club Rules say about things like that? Sounds a little fishy to me. I would definitely voice my opinion if it bothered me or else they'll keep doing the same stuff.

What would you say/do?

A scene from The Big Lebowski comes to mind when the guy steps over the line.

I would ask myself if it would have mattered to me if i had won.  If i could honestly say yes, then i would put in a phone call to the president.  If he refused to acknowledge a problem, i would address it at the next meeting, and push for rules related to those scenarios.

Raise a clone army and over-throw the powers that be. Then establish a Dictator-ship where you run the club and there are many statues and great architectual achievements named in your honor.

It was more interesting that a new guy in the club this year that has been fishing tourny's since he was like 12 and was up in the points brought a new guy with him that has only been fishing for a year or so and he drew him out.  Burley and I drew out with two guys that really have no bearing on the points race at all and the club president that was in either first or second place drew out with the worst angler that put in.    Everything worked out just a little to convenient for the top 2.

Sam we have similar rules in our club.   I am fairly certain the tourny director made it clear that anyone that didn't put in at the meeting would just have to show up at the ramp and hope someones non-boater didn't show so they could jump in their boat.   If you didn't put in as a boater as the director didn't you couldn't show up with a boat like he did.   I was also told by my partner that is one of the founding members of the club that boater #7 didn't like fishing with #6 and he drew out with him, and it was a little to convenient that they drew out last and anyone that came in like that would have to fish with one of them.

Bring it to the attention of the president. If he gives you the ole spin, quit that club and find one that's more like the kind of club that you want to be in.If you stay in,just grin and bear it.

Address it at the next club meeting under new business.  Ask for a clarification, and then ask if everybody in the club will be allowed to pull a stunt like that in the future whenever they want to?  Guaranteed, you will see a lot of back peddling going on.

That's the kind of crap that will ruin a otherwise good club.  Can't let them get sloppy on the rules or everybody will try it.

You're right bighead, once the club boat starts rocking, people are quick to jump off. I've seen that up close in a few clubs over the years. Heck, I've seen meetings come to blows before over stuff like that.  ;D  Those clubs eventually folded because they only had 2 or 3 members left.....usually the club 'founders'.

Talking to another guy in the club yesterday he used to be in another club that went under for nearly the same thing a couple guys started showing up with whoever they wanted.   Their was one more big thing all the money never made it into the checking account and couldn't be accounted for.

Sad, but happens way too often.

The members just have to take charge and let it be known that kind of stuff is not acceptable!! If it is, then shut up or leave.
