Super User Matt Fly Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 Two years ago, Mark Davis and Jay Yelas put the bad mouth on BASS for the course they steered with the Elite series and sponsor decisions. As for the bad mouth, in simple, they were not happy with recent management. Well if you didn't notice this year. Mark persued the BASS southern series. He finished 4th, which by rights has earned him a shot at getting back onboard with BASS and the Elites, and classic bid. Mark Davis was and is a versitile pro who cut his teeth with BASS. If I have my info correct, I believe first installments on next years entry fee's are due next Monday. Mark is sponsored by Skeeter/Yamaha, he's a Classic Champ and I think 3 time AOY also. With the recent sponsor boat changes, allowing an angler to fish out of his or her own sponsored boats gonna be enough to bring him back. Seems to me, that issue and the Beer sponsorship was the two thorns that stuck out. Time to get rid of the dead wood on tour taking up space who haven't shown promise. I would welcome back Mark Davis, It just makes the Elites tougher and tougher to dominate. Monday is the deadline for first installments on 2008 entry fees for the Elites. Should he stay or go? I'm hoping he's coming home to BASS. Another Classy pro and class act. Matt Quote
L-Train Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Mark is and Arkansas boy. I would like to see him back with BASS. I would also have him on my fantasy team from day 1. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 31, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 31, 2007 Mark paid both deposits. He said that he couldn't physically fish both trails. He will have decision on which trail he goes with in about 30 days. I can see he's leaning towards the Elites. I really think the reason that stands out is the 11 events over only having 6 regulars events on the FLW. Matt Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 31, 2007 Super User Posted October 31, 2007 Last year I had the oppurtunity to fish with a FLW pro with more than a million in winning in B.A.S.S. and FLW career earnings. He said another one of the reasons more pro's are opting to fish FLW over BASS is the enty fees and "other" expenses. The exact words from his mouth were that BASS Elite Series costs about $40,000 more than the FLW Tour. Now thats a lot of money and unless you are a Skeet Reese or Kevin Van Dam who is bringing in over $750,000 in just sponserships and taking a good amount of money on each tournament you fish, its a "tough" way to make a living. So just in entry fees and such, would you rather spend around $50,000 for the FLW or $85-90,000 in B.A.S.S.? Just food for thought. Like I said I dont know this for sure, but these are the facts I have been told from a guy who has done them both and what he told me. But I really dont think that anglers like Mark Davis and Jay Yelas sweat about that amount of money. Quote
L-Train Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Mark Davis chooses B.A.S.S Good for him. Can't wait to watch him next year. Well, the link won't copy. : http://www.basszone.com/2007zlines/davis2.htm Quote
The Duke Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Good for Mark. Now he can show the world how good he is again. Maybe some instant competition for KVD & Skeet. Quote
