brgbassmaster Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 i am starting the ABA tournaments in new mexico starting in february wondering if anyone else on here fishes them..i am going as a non boater. cant wait to get back from my deployment to fish them. Quote
frogtog Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 This is a great organization. I have been fishing them since the mid 80's. Leaving here Friday, going to New york to fish the regionals. I will probably have my hands full trying to catch them small mouths. I like the ABA because they are close to home and it doesn't cost a arm and a leg to fish them. Well that being said you don't win a lot at the local level either. Just learn that when you are a non boater to pack your gear accordingly and be ready to pay your share of the expenses without the boater having to ask for it. I am a member of D15 & D17 Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 5, 2007 Super User Posted September 5, 2007 You will hear great things about ABA and you'll hear bad things too. I plan to fish my local division next year to see what its all about. I do know, as frogtog said, that you wont get rich fishing the ABA locals but you can gain lots of experience fishing with different people. Quote
MattStrykul Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Hey 5BL do you fish the B.A.I.T. team tournaments as well? Quote
WBFishing Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I fish D110 in Alabama, but am moving to Southern California in October. I plan to fish the California Division and will probably make a few rides over to New Mexico and fish there. Hope to meet you. TSince this was my first year of boat ownership and tournament fishing, I decided to fish as a co-angler. I am really glad I did and that I fished the ABA also. I think that ABA is a good organization and everyone I have meet was more than willing to offer any advice and suggestions that would help a beginning tourney fisherman. Like I said it was my first year owning a boat and tourney fishing and was so afraid of drawing a partner if I went boater and messing up his day. A couple of guys even left me run their trolling motors to help me get the feel of it, steering a 21 ft comanche is easier than I would have ever thought. See you in New Mexico. Quote
BassHunter69 Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 i fish the aba d22 here in north alabama. ive got a set plan depending on how i fish in the next couple of years before i do the state wide tournaments, and from there i plan on fishing that a few years unless i make the classic which is possiable to do. years ago i fished the aba in cali so i know what im getting into as a co angler, and im ready and rearing to go Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted October 1, 2007 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted October 1, 2007 I fished the ABA Couples trail in Florida this year. Had a good time and met some nice people. I also fished as a non boater a few times in D-20. In one day I learned more about the lake and how to fish it than I have figured out prefishing for days. Super User fishfordollars Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 Any one got more info on the ABA? I would like to check out their setup and see if it is anything set up in East Texas. thanks Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Im in Mississippi, for some reason they dont have a division here but thinking of fishing the South Alabama division maybe next year. I dunno yet tho sure would be nice if they had a division locally tho, I dont why they dont have one here, have it in all the neighboring states, may have to do some traveling. Quote
