Super User 5bass Posted August 1, 2007 Super User Posted August 1, 2007 The Forrest Wood Cup (FLW Championship) starts Thursday on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. First place on the pro side pays 1 MILLION !! Anybody care to make a prediction on the winner? Although there are a bunch of locals in it and other true bass fishing legends, I'm predicting that my boy David Fritts carries home the big check! Quote
Olebiker Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I wouldn't bet against Fritts, given the situation. The winner is going to have to cover a lot of water to locate those scattered, suspended fish. This is a tough time for a tournament, but you know that the winner is going to be worthy of the big paycheck. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 1, 2007 Super User Posted August 1, 2007 Don't really get into the FLW, or haven't this year as much. Mark Davis is very familar with the lake, he guided there for years. Scott Suggs considers it as his home lake and has won a many tournaments there. George Cochran another local that has won major events there. With all this home water, wasn't it the first time ever that a qualifier won on his home waters on the BASS side this year. Does that hold true on the FLW side? No FLW pro has ever won the championship on his home waters. I'm going with a local's picks from Fork, Mark Pack, owner of the Lake Fork Tackle. George was my first choice, but Mark said he would add those other two because of home field advantage. Maybe its the year to have home field advantages in Pro fishing. Matt Quote
Howard Etue Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Cochran won on his home lake 2 years ago. I'm pulling for Larry Nixon. Quote
preach4bass Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I'm pulling for Jay Yelas. He seems like a classy guy. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 3, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2007 All the guys we picked arent doing so hot.....Nixon is in the Top 30, Fritts is 52nd > Yelas is way down and Cochran was near last place. Brian Thrift is leading by less than a pound over local fave Scott Suggs. Mark Davis is 8th or 9th, just 3# back of the leader. David Dudley is sitting 11th. Quote
preach4bass Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I believe Thrift is a NC guy, so I hope he can pull it off. BTW, do the weights 0 after day two? How about after day 3? Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 3, 2007 Super User Posted August 3, 2007 This one could turn out to be close. That 15 lb sack sure helped establish a good lead over the field. Scot Suggs Co Angler is leading the Co angler side. Suggs must be on a good pattern and school. Co anler had 11 lbs 9 ozs. Thrift ran all over the lake, had six bites, but the right bites for day one. Mark Davis is in 7th. Matt Quote
Olebiker Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I noticed that Bryan Thrift didn't look like a NASCAR race car on stage yesterday. Wonder what his sponsors think of that? Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 3, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2007 I noticed that Bryan Thrift didn't look like a NASCAR race car on stage yesterday. Wonder what his sponsors think of that? Thats Thrift's way of saying "I'M LOOKING FOR SOME NEW SPONSORS!" preach, thats correct, the weights are zeroed after 2 days Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 5, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2007 Holy crap! Fishing was tough on Day3. Only the leader had a limit, the rest of the Top 10 had a rough day. Suggs is sittin' pretty going into the last day with a 4+ pound lead over 2nd place. Someone's going to have to hammer them tomorrow and even if they do, Suggs will have to stumble at least a little bit. Quote
yooperfish Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Hey Guys! How do you think the co=angler winner felt getting stiffed? The boaters purse went up 5 times from what they can win during the year, and the co's stayed the same. I am a co-angler in the BFL's some Stren's and a Series event or two. I know us back deckers don't get a lot of respect in the sport and that proves it. My pick will be David Dudley looking to be the 1st into the 3 million club. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 5, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2007 No offense to the co-anglers but its not about them. Its about the pro's. The co-anglers are merely observers (who fish) to keep the pro's in line. Thats why the co's dont fish the last day.....FLW and BASS have enough cameramen to cover the top 10 or 12 on the final day. Any wrong doings on the final day will be caught on tape. The first 3 days are policed/reported by the co-anglers. I am pulling for Dudley also.....he grew up fishing the same lake as me. I dont think Dudley can overcome the amount of knowledge that Suggs has on Ouachita OR the 4+ # deficit. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 5, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2007 Weigh in just ended, Suggs won it despite only bringing 6+ today. He looked real happy when he held that Million Dollar check over his head! Quote
preach4bass Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Was Suggs eligable for the Ranger bonus? If so, I believe he would have won 2 million Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 6, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2007 Was Suggs eligable for the Ranger bonus? If so, I believe he would have won 2 million Yes, everyone who made the Top 10 was in a Ranger so that money was guaranteed to be paid after the 2nd day weigh in. Quote
preach4bass Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 So, what was the total? 1 or 2 million? Quote
flyphisher # Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 $500,000 for the win, $500,000 for being the winner and sponsored by ranger = $1,000,000 Quote
