Super User 5bass Posted May 21, 2007 Super User Posted May 21, 2007 The B.A.S.S. Elite Series is descending on my home lake (Smith Mtn) in early June and I plan to follow one angler from blast-off each day. Only problem is, who? If you had the chance to watch these guys on your home lake, who would it be? I have a short list put together, I just need to narrow it down and make final cuts. 1. Ike....because he's Ike 2. KVD...because he's KVD 3. Mike McClelland....he's one of the best deep water anglers on Tour and the deep water bite may be a big factor when they are here. 4. Hackney....I'm a power fisherman at heart and I'd like to see Hack on the job. 5. Hite....one of my favorites and he's due. 6. Brauer....would like to see him catch a bass on something other than a jig. 7. Clunn....I love throwing cranks and he'll be crankin' 8. Swindle....he may do something stupid or have words with someone 9. Skeet....might gain some confidence in swimbaits following Skeet around. Who would you follow? Help me decide. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 21, 2007 Super User Posted May 21, 2007 I'd skip Swindle. He's liable to capsize you. ;D If it were me, I'd follow KVD, Clunn, Timmy Horton, and Ish Monroe. Quote
squid Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Day 1, just to have fun and learn something( I am not a fan of his) would be to follow IKE. Day 2, to learn the different styles between the two( I am a fan), I would follow KVD. From there, who ever is left in the mix. What a great opportunity to see them put their principles into action. One who screams at every fish, and the other who know what a 5lber looks like...lol...kidding aside. These are the two I would follow, in that order. I just think IKE would be fun to watch and learn from the first day. KVD to see if he really fishes the way he tells me to fish around our home lakes...lol. Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 1. Ike because like you said he's Ike and I believe one day he will rival KVD in greatness. 2. If you want to see somebody catch lots of fish you might want to think about following John Crews. Smith Mountain is his home lake as well. He is one of the favorites to win. Quote
Guest avid Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 rick clunn. He is definetly past his prime, but he really thinks out there. I would like to see his strategy and see if I could figure out what was percolating in the basstastic mind of his. Quote
kbj3579 Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Scott, I'm in the same boat (ha,ha) as you, well no I actually will be in my own boat, but anyway I don't know who to follow either. I probably am not going to make it the first day on the water, but I will be there Fri.-Sun. I plan on following Jamey Fri., who ever he is with, but Sat and Sun, not sure. I don't believe John Crews is going win it, I actually talked to him yesterday, super nice guy, but he's nervous, to much preasure, I think. He actually said "I'm excited and nervous". I think Ike is a must one day. Quote
largemouthslayer Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Hackney (Power Fishing) KVD (i watched him this past weekend and he called his shots )Just wished he was from the south.....Just kidding.... Northern Boys Quote

I'm leaning toward KVD on the first day, then Ike on day 2, then someone who makes the cut (TOP 50) on Saturday, then someone in the top 3 in the finals. Only problem with KVD and Ike is that they'll have everyone on them and things could get hairy if they do alot of running around. Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 McClelland, KLein, Hackney, and Rook Follow the best angler that will have smallest crowd following him if i were you....IKE and KVD will have a floatilla in tow i am sure... Quote
sodaksker Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 first day...Kvd second day.....Ike Third day.....Who ever has the lead. Quote

fishingchef80 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Avid is there such thing as a "prime" in fishing?? just thought that was a funny statement. Quote
HPBB Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 If you don't know who to fallow you can try something like what I did. When The Bass Masters Classic came here, I wanted to fallow everybody. It was too hard to decide. Do I fallow Him? or Him? what about Him?. Just could not decide. so i picked an area That I like to fish alot and waited to see who came in that area and watch how they fished it. How each had a different way of fishing it., different spots. styles. I ended up wathcing about 15 didferent guys and learned alot of stuff about that area. Infact I saw about 5 guys pull up to a underwater hump with debris on it, that I never knew about ( now I do, and fish it offten) I ended up seeing everybody from KVD, to Clunn, Ike, Skeet & Klein It worked out great I got to see many guys I wanted to, and I learned alot about water I thought I knew well. rdneckhntr Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I would go with Ike. He's been my hero in bass fishin ever since I really started fishin hard. Quote

Super User 5bass Posted June 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 8, 2007 ike,,and why would alot of runnin around bother you or you not ridin in a gambler Yep, Gambler all the way.....just dont like having to trail someone that has 20 other boats trailing them too. Sounds like an accident looking for a place to happen. 4biz, Ish did well on Day 1.....I saw that he had a swimbait tied on one of his many rods. Quote
