JT Bagwell Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 For those of you that have seen the show called "Ultimate Match Fishing" what do you think about it? I never got the channel with my Dish package but I just ordered it today so I could watch that show and a couple others. Are they still getting new episodes of UMF or are they all reruns. What was the scoup with the episode I heard about with Swindle and Clausen? JT Bagwell Quote
Zel Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 It's good if you are a hard core bass angler. Sound quality has a bit to be desired. Also just don't get the feeling it is a quality show (maybe it's the video), but everything has a drab look to it (they should at least put some better colors into the boat scheme). And something just doesn't fee right about the whole thing reminds me of a B movie. I think Angler on Tour with Joe Thomas is far better. I continue to watch UMF and do enjoy it, but the Ref blowing the whistle when an angler casts beyond the center-line is just plain hokey. One thing I do like to see is the real side of the professional anglers. They seem more natural and at ease than when they are on shows like The Bassmasters. Didn't see the show you're referring to but I do get to see the past shows on the Free Video on Demand feature Outdoor Life offers on my cable channel I'll have to look for it. Quote
Infidel. Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I like the show a lot. You get to see a different side of the anglers. Some guys just go out there and have fun with it and then there are some that seem like they don't know how to have fun. I didn't see the Swindle/Clausen episode so I don't know what that is about. justtrying Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 JT, yes, they're all old re-runs now. i "tivo'ed" all of them earlier. some are really good. re: swindle & claussen .. it showed the absolute worst side of Gman that could be shown. ..at one point, he actually sat on the back of the back seat, held his rod & pouted like a 3 year old. he complained the entire time, said the next time he would wear a dress because luke & ike weren't "men" ..i mean, really made an ... of himself. ....and, this is the kicker, ...all the time, getting his rear end whipped to the tune of "Luke 5, Gman 0"... i mean Zip, Nada, Zero. he didn't catch one fish. luke caught a limit his first quarter & G was asked what he thought. his reply, "they don't look very big to me. he better catch better".... LOL ..oh, yeah, luke also caught fish from the back while G was running the boat. joe thomas commented that sometimes the contestants "put on" liking or dis-liking one another, but, this one was one time that the two really hated each other. ..it was something ... and, on that note, Gerald Swindle really made himself look Very Bad in his appearance, but, luke claussen & tim horton showed to be two of the nicest guys you would ever want to fish with. ronnie Quote
flyphisher # Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I like the show, its one of the better ones on O.C. Clausen put a killing on everybody he faced, really fun to watch. The Swindle/Clausen show was great. Seeing Clausen whoop up on him and the tantrum that insued was hilarious. I liked Swindle until the "Hype" went to his head. The more air time he gets now the more annoying he gets. Quote
Papa_Tom Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 JT... I think the show is all re-runs at the present. It seems they are all springtime shows, so perhaps they are in production at this time. I like the program, watch it every time it is on. You don't always get a lot of educational information, but on occassion you do. It is entertaining IMO. As stated, you get to see a different side of the pros. Most everything is very positive. As far as Swindle and Luke Clausen, I thought GS was just short of pathetic. I really liked his segments on Classic Patterns. However his behavior/antics on UMF left me with a negative impression of him. Sometimes it isn't the way a man deals with adversity, but rather the way he deals with success that tells us more about his character. Overall, good program. Quote
eastkybass Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Its a good show. They usually start airing new episodes in the fall but I'm not sure if they are doing them again. Quote
Bud Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 The show is all rerun now. The parts of it that was filmed on Ky lake was within 5 miles of my house. On Swindle/Clausen show the Gman show his a** Quote
Fisherman Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I also like the show; the Swindle/Claussen was the best rivalries on UMF. Quote
jdw174 Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 The new shows will begin this summer. Check out their website for all the data. This year it will pit anglers from BASS against FLW. should be great. Quote
cabela10 Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 You all remember the Final between Horton and Clausen. Clausen almost lost his head on Horton's cast from the front deck. Horton went to cast and a hook only snagged Clausens hat and went in the water about 10-15 yards out. I'm surprised he didn't get a treble hook in the back of the neck/head. Quote
CJ Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 The first two seasons were filmed during April.I thought the final between Bernie Schultz and Clunn was cool(first season). They were not told until the night before that they would fish a different lake the next day for the championship. We got to witness the master a work. But what do they really expect putting both up in the front of the boat when they are use to fishing by themselves in the front. Being use to being in the front by yourself I am sure one could forgot that another person is there. The surprising part is it seemed Clausen kept his cool about it, at least if he was mad he didn't show it. He actually even joked around about it a bit. Quote
gatrboy53 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 great concept.really get to know the pros .i dont like the ref bit,it takes away from the fishing.i also dont like that if the guy is leading after 3 quarters he dont have to fish if he has control of t.m. Quote
cabela10 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 They can fish if the guy losing wants too, but they take them to the middle of the lake. Quote

That is the episode they played today. That was some funny stuff. Clausen seems like he would be a cool dude to fish with. JT Bagwell Quote
