NEBassMan Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Congrats to the Alabama boy being the first to win a classic in his home state! Was a great tournament all around!! Jason Quote
preach4bass Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Ok, I'll be the first one to ask the obvious question: Who? Who is Boyd Duckett? Oh yea, that's right, he's the 2007 Bassmaster Classic Champion. Aside from that, I'd never heard of him. But, I'm glad he won it in his home state. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Great Job!! Excellent placing for the Federation nation by Terry McWilliams too!! That must have been one heck of a final weigh in. Unfortunately, I will be sound asleep when ESPN decided it should be airred. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 I have to hand it to one of the ESPN staffers on their website. They picked Duckett to win and coined him as the best fisherman you have never heard of. Quote
Jnamo Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 As I am sitting here watching Mr. Duckett on TV I think to myself how refreshing. He is catching fish without screaming, dancing, no neon hair...just a guy out fishing. I was wishing KVD or Klein would have won, but so far it appears that a new gentleman won and I am happy about that! Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Congrats to Terry McWilliams from Greenfield, Indiana, home of my Greenfield Bassmasters! He is one heck of a fisherman. Just a couple of better fish and we would have pulled it off. Brad Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 26, 2007 Super User Posted February 26, 2007 Duckett showed everyone how important it is to weigh in a kicker fish. The 6+ pounder he caught in the last hour put him over the top. That particular fish was worth roughly $455,000. I was pulling for Royce Dennington and he was very consistent all weekend.....in fact,he blasted off day 1 in 21st and ended up finishing 21st. It doesnt get anymore consistent than that! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Yes, he definately represented well also. Well done. Quote
tritonman Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I'm happy for Duckett, for an unknown to win will be big for him. Me being from Michigan i was of course rooting for KVD, but was also rooting for the unknown. Quote
Troutfisher Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Congratulations to Mr. Duckett on his first Classic win. I was hoping that KVD would secure a 3rd Classic, but, if Boyd Duckett fished harder and came up with more results, he won it fair and square. To Mr. Duckett! Quote
cabela10 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I have to hand it to one of the ESPN staffers on their website. They picked Duckett to win and coined him as the best fisherman you have never heard of. Yeah, best fisherman on his home lake. Lets see how he does on the Elite Tour this season. He might join Byron Velvick near the 70-80 mark. Quote
CJ Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Gotta hand it to Boyd Duckett. He went after the big bite and got it!Awesome Classic! Quote
justfishin Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Congrats to Boyd. Home lake or not, he made the right decisions and put good fish in the boat. Home lake can be a disadvantage as well as a advantage at times. He worked hard to get there, fished well and got the job done fishing against some of the best. Its nice to see a fresh face. He may be new to most of us but, I think I heard where he fished the Federation Trail for 18 years so, I would say he knows his stuff. Good job and Kudos to him. I for one am happy for him. Quote

JASON QUINN.....?.....HUMMMMMMMMMM : HE IS THE FIRST TO WIN ON HIS HOME LAKE.....PRETTY GOOD ACHIEVMENT IF YA ASK ME. 8-) Quote

I never said it wasn't a great achievement, I just said, lets see how he does on the Elite Series and the Classic next year. Quote
tritonman Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Let me correct everyone, Duckett's home lake is Lake Martin, and for only being pro for 4yrs I think he did outstanding, considering his fishing hero is KVD. Quote
Captain Cali Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Congratulations Boyd! Well done. 8-) Quote
squid Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 CABELA10 I DO GET YOUR POINT....BUT CAN'T COMPARE HIM TO VELVICK, OR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT BEEN OR WON A CLASSIC. PERIOD. THAT IS WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO GET ACROSS RIGHT? HOW WELL WILL HE DO IN THE ELITE SERIES? NEXT YEARS CLASSIC? WHO CARES? HE WON A CLASSIC....G-MAN CAN'T EVEN SAY THAT....SKEET REESE CAN'T EITHER. SO BE POSITIVE AND NOT SO DEFENSIVE ABOUT THINGS.....GIVE THE BOY THE CREDIT HE IS DUE. TOOK KVD HOW LONG TO WIN HIS FIRST CLASSIC? THE GUY IS BRAND NEW TO EVERYONE, BUT A SELECT FEW...SO YES, WE SHALL SEE. Quote
cabela10 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Squid, Yup, congrats to Boyd. Great 3 days. I was not comparing him to Byron Velvick, NOBODY is that bad. I just said he might finish down in the standings by VELVICK, all new waters to him, it will be a difficult season. He will have to do a lot of research on the lakes across the country. Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Congrats, to Boyd Duckett. Whether it was his home lake or not simple fact is he is a world champion and your 2007 Bassmaster Classic Champion. Quote
tritonman Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I'm with you bassmaster It's time to put history to rest, and except this Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Don't count Duckett out in the Elite. He is not a new guy by any stretch and he has fished about half of the Elite lakes on the 2007 schedule in the past, so he will know some of the waters. What will hurt Duckett in the Elite in 2007 is all of the time he will spend doing prmotional work due to the Classic. It will cut into his time on the water prefishing, etc. Brad Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 2, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 2, 2007 Ok guys, enough of the personal attacks or I will close this thread. I've already deleted a few posts and warnings sent. Quote
