And should I pay for the shirt or ask them to pay for it. I did get them in a big retail store. I did post this on the General fishing and just one lead. HELP :-/ :-/ :-/

Can't you just take it out of the money they gave you?   I would say if it's a small amount that you received, have them pay for it, but if they gave you a lot of money, just pay for it yourself.  Have them pay for all the embroidery, cuz that can get spendy.

Something is wrong with this picture or your not telling the whole story!!

Your saying that your looking for a tournament shirt to promote a sponsor. Your paying for the shirt, they didn't give you any money, there not giving you product, you got there foot in the door or a major tackle shop, and they want you to buy there product to use and promote. Are they a least giving you a discount?

DO YOU EVEN LIKE THE PRODUCT?

Agree with CB and Cabela. You signed a contract, received no money, use your gas to run around to hunt for a shirt or whatever to promote their product, buy their product and use it, geesh, did they get you to provide startup money for their business? Why in the world would you use your money to promote their product? Just to "say" that you have a sponsor?

Why would you do this? Use your money and time more wisely. Learn to become a proficient tournament angler first. Good sponsors will sign on once your reach a certain level in competing and become better known. Companies like this are in business of making money, not blowing it. Good businessmen will get things as cheaply as possible and it sounds like they have found inexpensive way of getting a little promotional effort out of you. . If you do not value your time and effort, neither will they.

Want another sponsor? I have a remodeling company that you can promote. I'll pay for 2 tournament circuit entry fees. I will provide the digitized graphics CD for both your tournament wear and the wrap for your truck and boat. You'll in turn agree to work 3 sport shows in your area, secure a local graphics company to wrap your truck and boat, write and secure publication for a minimum of 3 articles directly related to your experiences on the tournament scene in a local media with significant mention of the afforementioned company. You will agree to never speak in a negative or derogatory way concerning the afforementioned company.

What say?

Ok, to be fair, I will tell the whole story.I had been working for this new lure comany on and off for about a year. I had called them and I did ask them it they wanted any help in the area that I live to try and promote there product.I had worked for real good comany for 5 years before they closed there doors. now they payed for my seminars and me doing instore shows. This new lure company   told me that I need to do a contract to get on there field staff and if I do good on sales they would promote me to there pro staff and MAYBE help me out, like help me out with my tournament fees. But they told me that they would give me product to show to stores and promote it that way but that I need to make a order for my own product and I would get it for cost! They said once I was on board that they would send me two T-shirts,two caps, and a sticker. As for the pro shirt I was to do some instore seminars and I thought I could look good and still promote there product at the seminar, I am working on getting them in this store any a few other big chains.
