Well if you consider the "fishing derby" I was in at age 10 then my entry on the poll is not correct.  I won a bait caster rod and reel for catching the first fish of the day with my cane pole.  This was the one I learned to cast with and also learned to pick out backlashes  ;D.  However, my first "official" tournament was a club tournament I fished 33 years later.  I spent 8 hours on the lake and never felt a single bump the whole day -- got to thinking maybe I should have stuck with the cane pole.  I have never fished a "money tournament" but I average 15 - 16 club tournaments a year now and just had my best year so far.  Can't wait to get started on next season.

I was in the 7-9 range.

I won a tackle box full of stuff, a rod/reel combo and a trophy.

The thing I remember the most was getting sunburned really bad.

I was about 8 when I first did mine and didnt catch anything but some bluegills. The next year I did the same tournament and won with one 4# bass...man I wish things were still that simple!!!!!

I was 18 or 19 fishing in a local fruitjar tourney. We were looking pretty pitiful fishing out of a canoe(don't laugh!) amongst all of those bass boats and a few jon boat mod bassboats. We did win for the largest trash fish.We caught a really big jackfish(chain pickeral;I don't consider a chain pickeral a trash fish, but everybody else did).Won a couple of bucks.

I was 17 on Douglas Lake, I was the non-boater with a guy I worked with in one of his club tournaments. I had the kicker fish of the night and a lot of dinks, we beat the 2nd place competitor by 8 pounds and we had big fish (5 pounder) Haven't done that well since then. I'm 21   ;D

It was a club tourney. Back then, open tournaments, especially the popular buddy events were few and far between.  BASS was one of the few large sanctioning bodies along with some smaller regional ones that a few clubs affiliated with.
