Fish_Rapala Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I just came back from fishing and nailed 3 on a GYCB Senko (Junebug and brown with chartruse tail). Then I threw on a Wave Runner's Tiki Stick (Christmas Tree color) and didnt catch a thing. Playing with the two baits up close, the senko has a much wilder action on jerks before the fall. The Tiki Stick just kind of moved up, and then fell back down horizontally. I ordered some *** trick sticks a couple days ago, and I hope they have the same action as the original Senko, because I'd love to find a cheaper alternative to the GYCB. But that does go to show that you get what you pay for... Anyone else notice the differences between the real thing and knock offs?
JShrock07 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 But that does go to show that you get what you pay for... Exactly!!!! I have bought some of the cheaper ones before and they do not act right.
Christop73 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I just got back fishing for some smallies in WI, that would hit nothing but gycb senkos! I tried everything including live bait. They would swim rite up to the bait and turn around. Then I tied on a weightless rigged senko and caught my pb smallie! Imo gycb are worth every penny and on this occasion outfished live bait!
Super User Marty Posted September 1, 2008 Super User Posted September 1, 2008 I've used Senkos plus Yum Dingers and Zoom Z-Nails. There's no scientific basis to my observation, but I haven't been able to notice much of a difference. Regardless, I have as much confidence in one as the other.
Super User fishinfiend Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 You will be very pleased with the trick sticks. I have used tiki sticks, senkos, bass pro. I have caught fish on all of them. I have not noticed enough difference from the senkos to justify paying more than twice the price.
BassFishingMachine Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I rarely fish "senko" style baits because I find them to be extremely overused in the water I fish, but when I do, I find the senko to be the best action wise. The downfall to them is there about as durable as an egg. If I reach for a "senko" style bait, I will normally grab a GYCB, although if I find the fish to be alot less picky then average I will quickly put the GYCBs away and use a Yum dinger or Tiki stick. I will also use knock off senkos for color reasons, as Yum/Waveworm have some specific colors GYCB doesn't make (Or I haven't found). I believe on rare days a specific color works wonders. Although action wise... the senko seems to be the best IMO.
Super User 5bass Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 In my experieences with Yamamoto's, Dingers, Tiki's, etc...I can't tell a difference between any of them as far as catching fish goes. The Yamamoto's do have a different texture than the others and, with no specific scientific testing on my part, the originals seem to fall just a little faster than the other stickbaits. I'm not sure how true it is but I've heard that Yamamoto uses sand in their baits which creates a slightly heavier plastic with a totally different texture. The texture is the only significant difference I have found between all of the available stickbaits. Catch rate is virtually the same across the board.....and that IS what it's all about, right?
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 I use GYCB Senkos, and Yum Dingers. I have confidence in both. I like to use the Yum Dingers for dock skipping, they seem to stay on the hook better and are a little more durable. I like to wackey rig the GYCB Senkos, they have that end to end wiggle that I don't thing ANY knock off can copy when wackey rigged IMHO. For weightless T-rigs I use both, Yum dingers when fishing shallow, and senkos when in deeper water as they sink faster.
Super User Sam Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 Try Gary's son's baits, the Kinami line of Senko style baits, and see what you think.
Super User Muddy Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 GEZZ ! I woke up today and the first thing I thought of, WOULDN"T BE NICE TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE SENKO THEREADS!!!!!!
Super User ww2farmer Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 Try Gary's son's baits, the Kinami line of Senko style baits, and see what you think. They are the EXACT same baits as a GYCB Senko........right down to the GYB molded on the "egg sack".
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted September 2, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted September 2, 2008 Please read the Senko FAQ's. There's LOT'S of threads listed there comparing the original to other makes. Too much to list, and more said there than what anyone could add here.
Super User Raul Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 GEZZ ! I woke up today and the first thing I thought of, WOULDN"T BE NICE TO HAVE ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE SENKO THEREADS!!!!!! Well Dom, we did wrote extensively and profusely on the Lucky Craft thread, it was a while since we had another one, so since that one died we needed something to go for 'nother 5 or 6 pages.
Super User CWB Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 You will be very pleased with the trick sticks. I have used tiki sticks, senkos, bass pro. I have caught fish on all of them. I have not noticed enough difference from the senkos to justify paying more than twice the price. Avoid Bass Pro- Inconsistent quality. I catch more on Tiki-Sticks but probably because I use then more. Senkos probably the best but I can't afford to have one tear every time I pull it off a weed or a rockbass hits and I get back half a lure. I leave the bag on the casting deck in the sun and this actually softens them up a bit. Also I have had a bass run with a Tiki-Stick for a good couple of minutes just watching him. Have to try trick sticks.
Super User CWB Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 Try Gary's son's baits, the Kinami line of Senko style baits, and see what you think. They are the EXACT same baits as a GYCB Senko........right down to the GYB molded on the "egg sack". Ditto Except you only get 7 per bag so it might seem like a better bargain but isn't.
George Welcome Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Some of the responses leave me hanging with curiosity - Is there any subject that relates to bass fishing that hasn't been discussed a few thousand times on here? Why should Senko topics be any different? With newcomers to this sport arriving daily shouldn't any topic be open to discussion rather than derision?

shorefisher Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 My observations: Yamasenkos fall at a faster rate than Yum dingers. I'm not sure if this is better or worse but I have caught 3x more fish on Yum Dingers/Salty Sticks. But then again I've never been able to find senkos in watermelonseed. They are always sold out so I have to resort to Christmastree or watermelon red flake. Also as far as I can tell Yum Dingers are literally the exact same bait as *. Anyone know (and can say) if this is true? -Shore
Super User Muddy Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 They all work for the most part, *** work and are more reasonablly priced.. and you get first class customer service. Fall rates can also be the function of mineral conent of the water, temprature and different pours, I mark slots in my boxes if i notice a batch slightly faster or slower, sometimes this can help you catch.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 No, not the same, dingers are a bit stiffer. How did this thread make it to 3 pages??? Please refer to the Senko sticky for hundreds of replies on this exact subject. Closing down now
