Super User Long Mike Posted May 8, 2010 Super User Posted May 8, 2010 Wow! What a trip! Our best guess is that there were over 900 bass caught by our group. Big-O and the two Sergeants caught the majority - say 400, but that leaves 500 for the rest of us. Not bad for a group of twelve guys. Just out of curiosity, it would be interesting to know how well the Chicken group did on KY Lake.  Quote

We plan to put everything to good use. BassinSoldier we missed you friday morning but I thought that might happen with as many racoons ...I mean beers as you guys drank . It worked out for the better though the lake friday got REALLY REALLY rough. We shot across to panther and it looked like we had went swimming we were so wet. It paid off though we charted some deep structure and caught several keeper fish. All while BASS Federation Nation boats ran in and our of the cove flipping close to the bank. ;D We ended up turning in early from the lake. I'll post more stories and pick on a separate thread later tonight or in the morning. Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 An outing with friend is always the best kind. Awesome fihs you guys got there and I cannot wait to get my hands on the new color craw. Congrats to all of you! ;D Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 8, 2010 Super User Posted May 8, 2010 I left yesterday about five in the a.m. and arrived home at about six this morning. Terrible backup at the GW Bridge at one in the morning. The lower level was closed, and traffic was backed up for miles at the toll booths. But for that, I'd have done it in less than 24 hours. I thought the fishing was outstanding, and the cameraderie was even better. I found one honey hole and boated a six pound smallmouth, a five pound largemouth, and a four pound smallie in one red hot twenty minute stretch. Had a great time with all the guys. Will post about my personal "adventures", though "misadventures" would more aptly describe most of them. Quote

Glad you made it home safe Tom Was one of the highlights of my trip seeing you lift those beauties out for a photo Get some rest Friend....you earned it Big O www.ragetail.com It was memorable. But, you left before I got a bloody nose while Brian was fishing with me on Thursday. I got another four to five pound smallie, and a largemouth which Brian says would have been the largest fish of the outing take a back seat to whack I took, right on the end of my snot locker. Was doing 40 to 45, and the cover ripped off the cooler we had on the deck, right in front of the console. It flew up and whacked me right on the tip of my nose. My reflexes are pretty good for an old guy. I managed to grab it while it was still against my face. Brian dunked one of the towels I had on board in the ice water in the cooler. We kept running to where we were going. By the time we got there, the bleeding had stopped. Didn't bother me at all on Thursday. But it was surely plenty sore on the ride home. Not too bad today. Quote
steezy Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I had a GREAT time at pickwick, all the guys were great hosts with their boats and I was able to fish with a lot of people. I look forward to the next trip ! -Steezy Quote
Uncle Leo Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 We made it back, had a wonderful time! We averaged 43 fish. a day and 2 five bag limits a day. Wil post some photos of the better ones when I can. Great to see everyone! Quote

We did well enough that I have no regrets about my decision. 5-4 was the biggest I caught, with a couple more over 4. Everyone on the trip caught at least one over 4lbs. Couldn't tell you how many cookie cutter 15-17 inch fish were caught, but Kentucky lake has a healthy population of them for sure. Our group is anxiously awaiting an announcement on where next year's trip will be held. I am sure that the locals will not be too excited to hear the BR Roadtrip Curse will be arriving. Guntersville - a week of freezing temps and snow showers. Kentucky Lake I - same thing Pickwick/Kentucky Lake II - 18-22 inches of rainfall Where will the black cloud go next?  ;D Quote

Dinky Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 This was a great trip! I wish we didn't have to wait an entire year for the next one. I caught a lot of fish and really enjoyed fishing with Rhino, steezy, and Road Warrior. Thanks to Big O and the Bassin Soldiers for putting me on to the those ragecraws. Awesome! Road Warrior-you and Long Mike fixed a fine dinner Wednesday night - Thanks! Rhino-I showed Road Warrior a different technique for getting lures out of trees. Ask him. Leo-not to worry, the 3rd degree burns I got from the relish you brought are almost 100% healed. steezy-I searched my boat but unfortunately you didn't forget one of your rods or reels. Darn. Road Warrior-thanks for showing me where the fish live in Pickwick and were to eat breakfast! I will try to get some photos posted when I finally get home. wmd Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 8, 2010 Super User Posted May 8, 2010 I already have a 100% effective never fail method for recoveriny lures in trees. It's known as a chain saw. Quote
lazeebum Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I hate that I missed getting to meet everyone. I did make it down Thusday night. Caught a few fish Thursday evening and then several more Friday morning until the wind blew me off the river. Maybe next time. Quote
lazeebum Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 After I got done fishing Thusday night I stopped at a deli, gas station for beer and pizza. There was a fellow there that was fishing in a tournament Friday morning. He had caught so many fish he could not stop grinning. It is fun when you think you can catch a fish every cast. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Well to say the least we had a wonderful time fishing and visiting with all the good folks who attended. The weather after last Sunday was perfect. Moderate winds, bluebird skies and temps in the Mid 80's to low 90's. We averaged 43 fish a day and at least 2/ 5 bag limits a day. Even caught a surprise or two. Had a lot of laughs in the evening sharing stories which is the best part of any trip. Here are a few photos of some of the best caught in our boat. I do not know how that kitty got in the boat. Old Cranky ( Fred's) Smallie weighed in at 6 lbs 3 oz. The largest we caught. My Largemouth weighed in at 5lbs 8oz and was the largest we caught on the trip. To say the least we hope to go on the next Roadtrip and can not wait until next year! Quote
Big-O Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 WOOOO HOOOOOÂ Â You guys were on Fire Leo and knew you were on'em cause we could hear the hoopin and hollarin all over the lake ;D Glad everyone had such a great time and was a pleasure to meet you there Next time, I'm gonna try to slow those soldier Boys down a little so I can take break...I'm too old for that pace ;D Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 10, 2010 Super User Posted May 10, 2010 Nice pics! Fred and Leo make a perfect team. Outstanding fisherman, gentlemen, and GREAT guys. In addition to their best days on the water, they provided a spiral ham dinner one night for the entire gang... And it was grand! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 10, 2010 Super User Posted May 10, 2010 We had some challenges with storms on Saturday and Sunday, but the weather didn't stop Big O, Brian and Joe from getting in the mix! Most of our group arrived later and started fishing on Monday. Saturday night Gary (ghoti) and his lovely wife Mary hosted the welcoming party which repeated on Sunday evening with wine & cheese. Everyone caught fish, some caught over 100 a day. Fred caught the biggest smallmouth (6-3) with Rhino (Tom) close behind (6.0). Uncle Leo lead the pack with a 5-8 largemouth. As Big O has already posted, PBs by Joe and Brian, back-to-back! Dinners were casual and impromptu. Fred and Leo provided a spiral ham for everyone one night, we grilled burgers another. Big O capped off the event with Rage Tail gifts, including hats, packaged baits and tons of Baby Craws. Great time had by all. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 10, 2010 Super User Posted May 10, 2010 I am working on my report. It will take some time since it will read like a narrative. So many things happened, some funny, some dumb, but none serious, well except for the cover of the cooler flying off at 40 - 45 mph and smacking me right on the tip of the nose. It was a great outing, and even though I'm still recovering from the drive home, 1225 plus miles, I'd head down there again tomorrow, it was such a great time. Quote
