Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 7, 2010 Super User Posted April 7, 2010 I'm getting stoked. The way things are around here, I may have to break in the motor on my new rig at Pickwick. The local pond where I intend to make the break in and shake down runs cannot be accessed. The pond is still above flood stage and the state ramp is closed at the request of Fall River officials because of the high water. The ramp should open before I head south, but now the problem is, my wife had joint replacements on the big toe of both feet this morning, so I'm pretty much confined to the house to play nurse for the next week or so. There are a few other ponds in this area, but their ramps are also closed. If necessary, I'll make the run to Cape Cod and get 'er done. The only question remaining is, will the Humminbird 898 side imaging unit I ordered arrive in time for me to install it to use at Pickwick? New brakes on the front wheels of my truck, oil changed, and all systems checked out. Picking up a spare tire tomorrow for the trailer. Things are shaping up. Looking forward to meeting all the attendees. My plan is to leave here on Friday, arriving at Pickwick on Saturday. The first day of my license is Sunday, so Saturday will be a day of prospecting in the vicinity of the Landing. If anyone has a license that is good for Saturday, you are welcome to hop aboard and see what we can find. I hope to arrive by mid to late morning on Saturday. Have to make the Sprite and cheese soiree. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 8, 2010 Super User Posted April 8, 2010 Many options right there...You can test your new boat without risk. -Kent 8-) Quote
steezy Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Im planning on arriving Sat afternoon between 3-4pm. Quote
BassinSoldier Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I think Bryan (BassinSergeant) and I are planning on getting there on Saturday as well. Not really sure what time yet, though. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Fred (Old Cranky) and I will not be there until Sunday Afternoon. Tried to add a day in the beginnig or the end but the lodge had no openings. Quote
Dinky Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I will be there on Saturday. Would love to see how the side imaging sonar works at some point (in case I win the lottery and can afford to buy one someday!) They must be awesome--seems like more and more folks are getting them. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 8, 2010 Super User Posted April 8, 2010 Help! Man, if you have a boat and you're on the fence, we could really use some help. We need two or three more boaters. Quote
J-B Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 All right guys. I have to say that I am out. This is for two reasons. 1. You need a better balance of boaters to non-boaters. 2. My finances are just too tight right now. Bassinsoldier and BassinSergeant (plus everyone else) I am sorry. I pushed as close as I could being confident that I would be ok for the trip, but other things have become more important. No offense meant. Tight lines guys. I pray that all goes well at the trip and in life itself for everyone. I am heading to bed now drinking a bit of Jack Daniels and to quietly pout in sorrow. $#^%%@*!! :'( John. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 John, I completely understand. Not enough boats and/or people who are willing or able to share their ride. If I were a non-boater I would probably opt-out myself. This is the only road trip I have attended where rental boats are almost non-existent. Quote
bassinsergeant Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 J-B i'm sorry to hear that. We was looking forward to meeting you. For everyone that is still going or thinking about going we now have a opening in our cabin. Myself, Bassinsoldier, and Big O are the three in the cabin as of now. Just send me a PM if you are interested. Quote
bassinsergeant Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Hey tom, Joe (bassinsoldier) will be getting in youch with you in regards to your PM. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Whoop de do, whoop de do! I hope this is a good sign. My order for the Humminbird 898 has changed status. It had been shown as back ordered. It now shows as "In process". If that means they are now shipping, I'll have it in plenty of time for Pickwick. Quote
bassinsergeant Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Maybe Joe and I will get there early enough on saturday to help you break it in!!! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 It all depends on when I get going. If I am able to get away as planned, I should be there somewhere around sunrise, maybe earlier. You've got my numbers. You can give me a call on Friday when I'm on the road. Then we can coordinate our schedules. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 12, 2010 Super User Posted April 12, 2010 Yeesh. I just sat here and watched the videos from previous years and it's making me hate the fact more and more that I can't go this year. Hopefully next roadtrip I'll be able to plan a little earlier so I can have my parents watch my daughters for me. God only knows, hopefully I'll have a place to store a boat so I can drag one along with me. Would be a bit silly of me to drag a small Jon with me. I hope you guys have a great time on Pickwick. I think he's just thinking he needs to put it on his list earlier so he might be able to to go next year. It's an annual event for crying out loud. Everyone, well OK, maybe not everyone, but most knew there would be another "Road Trip" sometime in the spring of 2010. The only thing we did not know was the particulars of where, when, and other relevant details. Heck, those who cannot make it this year are talking about next year's road trip. I'm speculating here, but I'd guess that the cost to attend next year's road trip would not be much different from this year's. Travel might vary, but accomodations, registration, etc., would be ballpark to this year. But for gasoline, and even if you didn't share costs for accomodations, six or seven hundred dollars should cover it. So you budget a thousand dollars for next year's road trip, and you should be good to go as long as it's centrally located. Apologies to the west coasters. I know it's a cross country haul for you guys. But my fuel to haul my boat and sorry butt round trip will cost more than a round trip airline ticket from the west coast. Had three who were going to ride with me and share the fuel costs, but chose to opt out when they could not be certain of having a seat on a boat. Super User BrianinMD Posted April 12, 2010 Super User Posted April 12, 2010 I am one of the one's who backed out on Rhino, boat situation was part of it. But have some personal things come up too. Was still going to try to make it however with the reduced attendance and boat situation I decided my best option was to not go. While it is great we had 6 months to plan things everyone has different situations in life going on. We really shouldn't be posting negative about people because they have priorities, SoFlaBassAddict posted a priority way way above fishing, his daughters. I love fishing and go every chance I get but my daughter comes first also, its not even a close choice. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 12, 2010 Super User Posted April 12, 2010 Has anyone heard from Alpster lately? I have been trying to get in contact with him and have been unsuccessful. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 12, 2010 Super User Posted April 12, 2010 Surprisingly....I need quite a bit. My business can go from slow...to stupid fast very quickly. And the first part of the year is extremely busy for me. Fishing is usually one of the last things on my mind Dec. through about late march to early April. Add that to the fact that I'm a single parent of two, so yeah planning can be an adventure at times. I think I'm due for a vacation though. I've had one by myself in the last six years. steezy Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Fishing License What fishing license (TN,AL,MS) should I purchase to be able to fish anywhere at Pickwick ? Ive heard that with the TN or AL license will cover everything, is that true ? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 12, 2010 Super User Posted April 12, 2010 No. The Alabama license covers all of Pickwick to the dam. The Tennessee license is more limited. However, in your case you will need a TN to fish below the dam. So, 1 week AL and the shortest license for TN. We are fishing Tuesday below the dam, but we'll get your license the day of the trip. -Kent Quote
