DONE!

It will be a pleasure fishing with you.

Would you like me to set it up for Monday?

I think it's $350 plus tip. Figure $200 each.

-Kent

If the above was to me, yes, set it up.

If a deposit is required, and a credit card is acceptable, get me the particulars and I'll do it right away.

I'll get it set up.

I just got my 'bama fishing license online.

A question for RW.  Will I need a TN license for Monday?

It shows I'm committed, though some will say I should be committed.   ;D

Mike. Do you have some names that need to be added to the signed up list. Stuff went out Monday and i thought it would have made it to OK by now. Just wondering if you havent had a chance to or you just have not got it yet.

I pulled the trigger today. Got a new 2009 Nitro Z7 with a 150 Merc that I will be bringing to Pickwick barring unforseen circumstances.

Will be picking it up at the end of March when I get back from my own road trip with a buddy to fish Lake Varner, and other lakes/ponds, within an hour or so from my daughter's home in Temple, GA.

Remember to bring your PFDs. I only have one. Anyone who gets stuck with me will need one.

OK boys and girls, here's the situation.  Despite our promise to the contrary, it's becoming obvious that we will have a major shortage of boat seats available for those without boats.  There are those of you who will be bringing your boats, but most of you have already filled the empty seat.  If any of you have boats, but hadn't plan on bringing them, now is the time to change your mind.  If you have already filled the seat, but can fish three or even four people out of your boat, now is the time to reconsider.  If you haven't signed up yet but are planning on making the trip with your boat let me know ASAP.  If you are planning on buying a boat and bringing it with you also please let me know.

At my last count there will be around thirty attendees, but there are only three boats that claim to have empty seats.  Help me out here guys.

I haven't filled the seats in my boat.

Wasn't it requested that the seats not be filled so that we could switch around and get to fish with different members?

I can toss my canoe on the roof racks, bring the batteries, charger, and trolling motor, for anyone who cares to use it. It also has a portable fish finder that runs on 8 AA batteries.

I'll bring extra batteries for that as well. It will have everything needed except for the personal flotation devices.

It's a very stable canoe, and comfortable for two. It definitely beats fishin' from the beach.

It's registered, so it's legit.

That, and the new boat will take care of five of us.

Might be able to fish four from the Nitro in a pinch.

On Sunday, I do plan to fish with BrianinMD, and Basser when we arrive.  But on the official fishing days,  I have no commitments.

You can rotate my "crew" as you see fit.

I wanted to give you an update regarding the roadtrip.  As some of you know, the number of people attending the event this year is much lower than in recent years.  This is not a sign of lowered interest, nor an indication that the event has lost its luster.  Quite the opposite has happened, in fact.  However, increased interest and anticipation cannot overcome the economic hardships everyone has encountered recently.

The fact is, people have had to make tough decisions, and reduce their spending.  This means cutting back on vacation trips and staying closer to home.  I completely understand this decision and don't blame anyone at all for taking care of their families first.  That's how it should be.

That said, there still are a number of people planning to attend this year's event on Pickwick lake.  Since the number of attendees is down to around the levels of our first road trips, I decided to hark back to those years and focus completely on the camaraderie and fishing that are the hallmark of this event.  We're returning to our roots, and having the roadtrip like we did back in the early days.

We will have a much more relaxed atmosphere this year by removing all structured events.  This means there won't be any scheduled meals, including the banquet.  Furthermore, there will not be any speakers this year, nor will we have tackle packs to give away or a raffle.  Instead, attendees will be free to come and go as they please, meet and hang out with new friends, and have fun fishing!  This also means anyone who sent in a registration will be refunded their money!

Even though we're not doing some things this year, I'm positive it's still going to be a fantastic event.  I'm certain everyone will have a great time.

One other item I need to mention is that we currently have an imbalance of boaters and non-boaters.  There's a lot more non-boaters than boaters, meaning space is very limited.  Chances are likely three persons per boat will be the norm, with the possibly of a few going with four.  While this shouldn't deter anyone, I just wanted to give you a heads up. The options for non-boaters would be:

A: Find a buddy with a boat and bring him along.

B: Recruit more members with boats to sign up.

C: Share the rental on a pontoon boat with 4 or 5 others.

D: Fish from the bank.

E: Hire a guide. (in this economy I bet you could make a great deal on multiple days with shared cost)

E: Any other brilliant idea you can come up with.

On a final note, I want to let you know that Keri and I will not be attending the event this year.  Since there isn't anything for us to orchestrate or coordinate this year, plus the fact we would be 2 non-boaters taking up backseats that our members could use, we thought it best to stay home this year and hold down the fort while the rest of the BR crew enjoys the event.  Hey, somebody has to keep the rest of ya in line while the cat's away! ;)  While we're disappointed we won't be seeing some of our friends, we're confident everyone will have a terrific time with or without us.

We only ask that y'all take a lot of pictures and bring home some stories!

I was just thinking you're another early morning person.   Then it dawned on me it's about ten at night on the left coast.

You're not going to be relegated to the beach.  If need be, and maybe even if not needed, I'm going to bring my square stern canoe, trolling motor, batteries, charger, fish finder, anchor and paddles.  Just add fishermen, PFDs, and their equipment and you have a neat little fishing machine.  It's 42 inches wide and very stable.  I can stand and cast in it.

At the worst, we'll work out some kind of rotating deal so everyone gets their share of boat time.

One way or another, things will get worked out so we get a chance to meet and fish with each other.

Don't you have two boats that you could bring and lend to helping remedy the imbalance of boater/non-boater. I mean this is all your baby and if your not willing or not able to go the extra mile and do everything possible to make it everything it has been billed to be why would anyone else care to? You might as well go ahead and make the official announcement that the roadtrip has been canceled and hopefully will be able to return next year.

Glenn I ain't trying to call you out or anything, just believe going about things this way would lead to the death of the roadtrip forever.

You want Glenn and Keri to travel from Washington State to Alabama pulling boats. That would be one long ride. ;D

Like I said before, I'll know if I can make it for sure in a couple weeks. If I go down I'll be pulling the Fish & Ski down so I have room for 3 people and myself to sit comfortable.

This is disappointing! At least we will get to fish and make our own fun, hopefully this will not discourage too many from attending. I personally will still be there along with my fishing partner. I just do not get enough time to fish, like everyday LOL, to stop me from going. Long Mike maybe you can still hold this together so we can all sip beers in front of a fire pit and tell lies. ;)

I'll be there. Just out of curiosity, was there a set # of people that had to be signed up by a certain date? Seems like the plug might have been pulled a bit early. Now this will give people that were sitting on the fence something to think about. However, if you are on the fence, GO!!!! You will have a great time. And you know the fishing will be great. Larry and others have a good point-

tickets have been bought and paid for and vacation days have been set aside.

There must be more members closer to Pickwick that could have been contacted. 6 are coming from ILL. but 0 from AL., 2 from GA., 3 from KY., and 1 from TN.?
