Super User firefightn15 Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 Some friend you are. You promised not to tell tales out of school. > Besides that Kelley, her unibrow is only a winter coat! ;D Quote
Super User CWB Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 Of course....being a fisherman, you have to upsize to impress....by the way I'll only be catching 6 lb plus fish at Pickwick....be ready. Where have you been hiding! Wouldn't be the same without pulling back into the Marina and seeing you and Glenn fishing from shore, catching more than we did out on the lake. ;D No kissy face here. P.S. Drum don't count. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 We slew 'em on that jetty. Most everyday I picked up at least a couple keepers just fishing off the gangway to the dock. Quote

Super User CWB Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 I remember standing on the dock where Leo had his boat in a slip and watching Cart go down the inside of it and land 2 keepers. If I recall, he had to back the boat out as it was a pretty narrow cut. I grabbed my rod and pitched a jig to the rocks an immediately caught a 14 incher. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 Glenn caught a bass on his first cast when I fished with him and Keri. That little harbor was stacked! 8-) Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 Well I guess the proof is in the puddin', I suck! Quote
Super User CWB Posted February 5, 2010 Super User Posted February 5, 2010 Well I guess the proof is in the puddin', I suck! Easy on yourself, Brian. Suck is a pretty harsh word. Stink maybe. I started and ended most days with a few casts to the rocks in the Marina. Who says you need a $50,000.00 boat (Kelley) ;D Quote

By the way, still iced in here and snow tomorrow. This is the coldest Winter since I moved here 6 years ago. Kelley Quote
ProCrafter Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I am just chompin at the bit waiting for the spring to start and here so we can get to whackin those Alabama fish!!!! As far as the boat thing goes....might need to change my screen name soon....more to come.... Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 6, 2010 Super User Posted February 6, 2010 A question regarding reciprocity of licenses from GA, ALA, and TN, and fishing in Pickwick. Will a non-resident GA license be acceptable? I'm going to stay at our daughter's home in March to do some fishing in Georgia, Lake Varner being one of the places I will fish. Since my wife will be retiring sometime this year, we'll probably go to our daughter's for a few weeks in the fall. I'm going to get an annual non-resident Georgia license before I go there in March. Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 6, 2010 Super User Posted February 6, 2010 my mistake. For some reason I had it as Georgia rather than Mississippi. Thanks. But, I may opt for an annual Alabama license, since our daughter lives less than two hours from Wheeler, Guntersville, and some other notable waters in 'bama. Quote
lazeebum Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 If you get to come to the road trip, spring for the three day non-resident Tennessee license, there is plenty of great fishing in the Tennessee portion of Pickwick. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 We have provided the link for an Alabama license simply for those that may fish other lakes or motor more than 17 miles up river. The Tennessee license is more restrictive. Alabama has reciprocal arrangements with both Mississippi and Tennessee allowing access to all of Pickwick Lake. 8-) Quote

From the Roadtrip website: Fishing Licenses An Alabama fishing license is all you'll need, regardless of the area you plan to fish on Pickwick Lake, but especially if you plan to fish 17 miles up river from where we're staying (some say past Waterloo is where the best smallie fishing is). Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee have reciprocal agreements for Pickwick lake. However, if you wish to fish the area below Pickwick Dam, a Tennessee license would be needed. A non-resident 7-day Alabama fishing licence $26.00. Here's where you can get your license (scroll down to the "links" section). 8-) Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 I picked up a cheap 30 dollar Shimano Sierra spinning reel for my old Shakespeare Wonder Rod. It will hold 200 yards of six pound mono, which is what will be on it. I'm going to upgrade the adhesive tape and bandaids that hold on some of the eyes with 3M electrical tape. The joining ferrule will be epoxied in place, and all the eyes will be polished with 1200 grit wet or dry sanding paper, just in case they have any burrs or rust scale. I will bring it with me, to use a bit for old time's sake. If any would like to try it, you are welcome to do so. It will be a living history lesson in what it was like to fish in the dark ages. Just a cast or two from the shore should be worth a laugh. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 I know the question was asked last year about Kentucky Lake and the weather did not cooperate, but is there anywhere near the lodge that we could night fish for big cats? Quote

Works for me, just gotta get your cousin on board with taking the boat out at night.  BTW, if we go out for bass at night it will be swimbait time!!!. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 i dont think we will have to twist his arm to much. If not, we will just steal his boat or Brians. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 Fishing Pickwick at night requires some planning and caution. There are a number of boat ramps that reduce motoring distances dramatically, but there are still dangers. 8-) Quote
Pitchinkid Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Wont be my first rodeo, but thanks for the advice. Quote
J-B Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I have put in a request for vacation time for the road trip. I dont know if it will be aproved yet. If it is, is there anyone else from the Atlanta area heading up there that I can join up with and anyone that has a spot left in a room or cabin?
