Well I have to work until 11:30pm Central on Sunday so I won't make it down until monday morning. >:(

BTW I guess I need to find a good map now this is a "scaled" back roadtrip. Any idea where I'll be able to find one as good as last years KY lake map? BTW locals (cough, cough RW) I'll need some input on where to locate some smallies by the wilson dam section or any good smallie section.

Rip-rap just outside the McFarland Marina harbor

is a place to start. Fish it down river to the creek,

10-20 yards off the bank in deeper water. Repeat

a little further out and again in closer.

Down river, the front of Seven Mile Island is a

great spot, but heavily fished:

Further down, both sides of Cane Creek. The

water to the right, off gravel shoreline has been

hot, but the other side has deeper water and

is coming on strong.

I have a well marked map I will share with

you when we meet up. I guess that will be Monday

night. Tom and I are fishing with a guide Monday,

0' Dark Thirty.

Can anybody recommend a decent low cost handheld GPS that I could buy for pickwick? This will just be a stop gap until I get a Side image with GPS but I'd like to be able to load some gps spots and maybe just have a very basic map so I know where I'm at.

Simp I have a Garmin eTrex Legend CX I use for that. It is about 4 years old and if I remeber right I paid about $200 for it. I am sure it is obsolete now but Garmin has a great Map Program US Recreational Lakes with Hotspots. I have about 30 waypoints right now for Pickwick plotted. If you get something I will share the coordinates. If I can not find fish at 30 locations I am going home. I used it last year at Kentucky Lake and caught fish everyday. EIther these Hotspots are good or I am lucky.

For determining an exact spot, you need a GPS

unit. However, Pickwick is a river lake and you

cannot get lost.

As it is said, "It's who you know."  I knew getting a room along the way, in the Bristol/Knoxville area for Thursday night would not be a problem.

But Friday night, with the tournament and all rooms would be scarce in the Pickwick Landing area.

Called one of my customers who manages a couple of motels in the Hilton chain, and he made a call and got me a room at the Hampton Inn Pickwick Dam at Shiloh Falls.

My cost is less than 35 bucks, including all taxes.

The Humminbird is installed and singing.  Got a room near all the action for Friday night.  Fishing with the military on Saturday, Steezy on Sunday and maybe another if someone needs a seat they can join us on Sunday.  Fishing with RW on Monday.  Even if he humiliates me on the water, at the moment, life is good.  Very good.

Ten hours from now, I'll be on the road.  See y'all in a few.

I talked with our guide, Gary Harlan, yesterday.

He asked what we wanted to do and I told him:

12 lb 2 oz smallmouth! He said we can do a lot

better (numbers) targeting green fish. I told him

we weren't after numbers.

Gary and his wife will be at the Wine & Cheese

Party Saturday night. He will narrow things down

then, but as of yesterday, we will be fishing jigs

and C-rigs only. Interesting, huh?

We have a room reserved. If you are drinking

beer or whiskey, bring your own and be discrete.

We are serving wine & cheese at the party.

I plan on bringing a couple of bottles of my home brew Merlot to try. Gary gets a full glass!

The get together will be held in the Board Room at the lodge.  It will be held there every night.  The room will cost $125 for the week so a small contribution from each of you ($5?) will take a great burden off my wallet.

I know most of you guys have already left and won't see this but for any of you who are heading towards pickwick the weather is terrible right now.  We just had several tornado warnings expire in Jackson but are experiencing heavy rains and flooding.  They are expecting lots more rain ahead.  Power is out in some areas due to flooding.  Now I'm speaking on weather in Jackson TN which is an hour away from pickwick.  I'm sure the weather their is not too much better.  Just wanted to give you guys that haven't left a heads up and let you guys know you need to stay alert to the radio while on the way.  Also be cautious of the roads and watch for flooding.  Hope you guys have a safe trip.

Tornadoes and flooding rains?  Well, at least it's not snow!   :D

I don't know I think snow might be better. We've had 10 inches or rain since 3AM. They are evacuating some neighborhoods and homes with a boat. That might be normal in some states but is definitely not here. They said we'd be on national news tonight lol. And to top it off both hospitals and the police department are running on backup generators.  But they said Savannah TN which is right next to Pickwick hasn't had near the rain.

Just a FYI my dad and I have decided to wait until a little later Monday to take off. Our rout would take us right threw the bad weather and flooding. We don't think it would be smart to tackle that half asleep and in the dark. So with any luck we'll down that by Monday afternoon.

That's what I told Blaine last night when we talked.
