OK folks, time for a final head count.  We have about two and a half weeks left.  Who's going to make it and who isn't?  I'll start.

Long Mike, with boat.  Can fish with two others.  Sunday and Monday are taken.

I'll be there with boat and canoe.  Current plans are to be there early Saturday morning, but, could even be there on Friday, maybe earlier.

How much earlier depends on the weather forecast, finding a motel room for a night or more in the area, etc.

Saturday is booked with the sergeant and soldier.  Canoe, fishfinder, and trolling motor package is available.  Can handle two fishermen comfortably.  First come, first served for Saturday.

From Sunday 'til the last official day, Long Mike will do the "bookings" for the canoe, and two seats on my boat for the remainder of the trip.

If plans change to arrive before Saturday, I'll post the details if anyone wants to join me and share, or get their own accomodations.

Be advised, I have no knowlege of these waters, so we'll be prospecting.

Haven't been fishing since returning from GA two weeks ago.  Been playing nurse to my wife who had joint replacement surgery on both big toes.  Haven't even been able to get the boat in the water to break in the engine.

Hopefully by the end of this week.  Been going over the boat with a fine toothed comb.  Need a mat that will fit beneath the below deck oil reservoir.  It sits on the metal tie down bracket.  Not good.  It will end up getting chaffed and then will leak.  Same for the batteries sitting in shallow plastic trays.  They need some type of shock absorbing mats that are impervious to battery acid and any other vapors that could be present in that compartment.

My 'bama license is good beginning Sunday.  Since it appears we'll be needing a TN license for Tuesday(?), I'll get a TN license that will be effective starting earlier.

Seventeen or fewer days to blastoff.  The countdown is on.

I'll be there Saturday afternoon thru Wed morning, NO boat (sorry) but will very much appreciate an invite on anyones boat.

Just talked with my guide for the outing,

Gary Harlan (Roger Stegall's Professional

Guide Service). Big fish are on beds right

now, it's all about numbers for awhile. 40+

days of "tournament bass" are a possibility,

but last weeks contest (140 boats) only

produced a 5 1/2 lb big bass.

On the other hand, I posted this in the thread

running in "General" last week:

KVD won the Classic fishing the Red Eye Shad.

Here's another story, an e-mail I received this

morning:

Ok guys,

Attached are a few pictures from my blackberry of the largemouth I caught last Thursday at Pickwick. Was all alone so I wish I had a better camera and better pictures, but it was mighty cool to me. Fish was 26.5 inches long and had a girth of 22.5 inches. I had a board to measure her with, but took fishing line to get girth and measured later.

Caught her on a gravel bar in about 7 ft of water at 1:00 last Thursday on a Strike King Red Eye Shad 1/2 ounce with Vicious 12 pd test fluorocarbon and a Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Elite Reel and a Bass Pro Shops 7'0 ft medium heavy cranking stick. Was slowly pumping it down the gravel bar when it just loaded up on the fall. First fish I caught of the day and really she did not fight that much. Dead pull, strong but I figured I just had a fish foul hooked or in top of head.

She bulldogged under the boat and when she came out and floated up, she had it right in top lip and just gave up.

I was kinda in shock I guess and ran water for live well and called dad (he was at work of course) to get him to pull up records which in Alabama for public water was 14.9 or so. I took the x-tool and weighed her and it bounced between 13.1 and 13.3. Not wanting to hurt her, I put her back in live well as I tried to figure out what to do. Nobody was anywhere around and I took her out for as many pictures as I could with a cell phone (no other good camera). I then took her measurements to verify weights as the only scale I had was x-tool in the boat. After

2-3 minutes of her in the live well, I cranked up and idled back to the exact area i caught her and let her swim away, in which she TORE out of my hand.

I have never caught anything close to this (10 lbs biggest), nor will I, I am sure on area waters, but it was a very humbling experience to finally see one this big in our lake we love so much. We have one of the most special resources in the world close to our home and I just hope we can keep seeing these things happen.

Also, Jimmy Mason caught a 8-2 smallmouth yesterday up there and is putting pictures on his website on a guide trip, so it is getting awesome.

Thanks for the listen.

I'm absolutely sure that I might have understood what I thought Kent said, but I'm not sure that what Kent might have said is what I heard.

Yessiree!  The Humminbird 898C SI and the mount are on the way.  Expect to see them within a week.

At the moment, it looks like the new boat will get its keel wet today, and the engine broken in.  May even wet a line to make it a proper christening experience.

Mike's just excited about the cheese, btw, check for teeth marks in it just to make sure he didn't get in ahead of everyone else. His wife tells me that he's had this unstoppable drool for the last several weeks. ;D

I promise that there will be no teeth marks in the cheese.  Just licking it is good enough for me.

I will ignore Speedbead's very accurate remark.

I just want to let all of the Road Trip attendees know that my boat (150hp Tracker TV-18) will be available to any qualified boater and his passengers on Tuesday.  Naturally, I will require a nominal $10,000 security deposit.   8-)

I will be there Saturday morning-staying until the 7th. I have room for two more in my boat-No deposit required-just bring your own cheese!

Question: I see Road Warrior has engaged a guide. Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to do the same and if so to share the cost? If so, let me know because I would be willing to share the cost.

This is my first Road Trip so I do not know anyone yet, but I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Your enthusiasm is great and makes it easy to get really excited about the road trip!

Long Mike, RW my dad and I will be showing up in the wee hours of the morning Monday. You will probably be getting up to hit the watter as we are showing up. As of right now I'm working the 3-11:30pm shift Sunday night and we will leave as soon as I'm done. I'll have to google the drive time. Again as of right now we have a open seat all week. My pops broke his collar bone last week and will still be recovering but he's dieing to fish and I can barely hold him back now let alone Pickwick. So anybody with us may have to listen to a grown man scream some expletives. Were hoping by Pickwick he's made some decent progress though.
