On a final note, I want to let you know that Keri and I will not be attending the event this year. Since there isn't anything for us to orchestrate or coordinate this year, plus the fact we would be 2 non-boaters taking up backseats that our members could use,

Don't you have two boats that you could bring and lend to helping remedy the imbalance of boater/non-boater.

You want Glenn and Keri to travel from Washington State to Alabama pulling boats. That would be one long ride. ;D

Like I said before, I'll know if I can make it for sure in a couple weeks. If I go down I'll be pulling the Fish & Ski down so I have room for 3 people and myself to sit comfortable.

Glenn I ain't trying to call you out or anything, just believe going about things this way would lead to the death of the roadtrip forever.

This part.

Hey guys!

We just "gotta make do". Come join the party,

we'll all have fun, catch some fish and sip a few

brews. Seating is just something to deal with.

Everyone will get on the water at least part of

every day.

In light of the recent changes in the plans for the "Roadtrip", I feel I need to make a very important point regarding the "Roadtrips".

I have been involved in the road trips since the beginning and intimately as a "Roadtrip Coordinator" along with Long Mike for the last several years.

Glenn did not create the "Road Trips" or even the concept. He simply saw what the members were already doing to enjoy bass fishing and tried to get under it and support it. He has spent tons of his own money and countless hours of his own time trying to make what we were already doing, that much better. He has called in a lot of favors and invested much of himself in making a good fishing trip something very special. Much like these forums, the Road trips are an amazingly easy, inexpensive way to enjoy your passion for bass fishing and Glenn has knocked himself out to make it better for all of us.

If you want to come to Pickwick and have a wonderful time fishing with some of the best people you will ever meet, then come on and have a great trip. If you choose otherwise, that's OK, but it is no one's fault and certainly not Glenn's if it doesn't meet your expectations.

I am coming off maybe the worst economic year of my life. I had to cancel the roadtrip last year, I lost my house, I don't yet know how my daughter is going to college in the fall, I am working very little and bills still come due. I can complain and try to find fault with others, but I know that's not going to fix anything. So I got married to a wonderful woman, adopted a new kid and with God's help, we work hard to make the best of it.

There are no bad guys here, only bad circumstances. As in life, everyone is responsible for his own success on the "roadtrip". Please choose to make the best of it or stay home, but don't blame anyone for that over which they can have no control. Sorry for the rant. I just thought that needed to be said at this time.

As always, I continue to appreciate the forums and the fellowship and all I have learned and gained from this group. Thanks for listening.

I agree With Ronnie espically the last sentence.

This will be my 4th RT and I have met a ton of nice people and only a couple a$$holes.  Neither have showed up at any of the RTs except FORK and it has been a long time since I have seen a post from either.

The RTs are a a ball and I will enjoy this one as much as the others.  Really looking forward to upgrading the 6 1/2lb Smallie I have on my wall.

Wow!  We have 2 boats? Really?  Please do tell us where the other boat is because we'd sure like to see it!  ;D ;D

Ronnie and Kelley, thank you for the comments.  The decision wasn't last minute, nor was it taken lightly.  We announced this event 8 months ago, but only a handful of people had signed up by early Febuary. We saw the writing on the wall, and levied hard to get people to sign up before March 15th, but only a few more did so.  It was clear that there wasn't going to be any "last minute" surge of people.

So there's no reason to wait any longer to announce this change.  I wanted to give folks time to decide for themselves what they wanted to do.  Waiting any longer would only get people angry for giving them short notice.

Again, we're not cancelling the event - just toning it down a notch.  So let's not read anything more into it.

Thanks!

Glenn

I was kind of surprised that, when doing a thorough search on the net, I could find no type of fishing boat rentals available in the area of the RT site.  It would seem that making sure that there is an availability of boat rentals would be an absolute must for future events given how many folks come to these boatless, often due to the distance, flying in or not owning a boat.

Glenn mentioned "Share the rental on a pontoon boat with 4 or 5 others".

I would be interested in more info on that idea.

Anyone else wanna share the cost ?

I just called the boat rental people 731-689-5359 and the terms are:

$213/day 15 passenger pontoon boat

$330/day 10 passenger pontoon boat (its faster, you can ski)

Hours: 9am - sunset (cannot get boat before 9am)

I am willing to pay up to 1/2 of the cost for 2 days if anyone is interested.

Bob, I'll split a boat with you, either Sunday or Monday. My wife will be with me.

.ghoti., that would be great, I look forward to learning a few tricks/secrets from you.

I will PM you my contact info and we can discuss the details soon so I can call and reserve the boat.

Get a guide instead: http://www.fishpickwick.com/

I have one of Roger's associates (Gary) Monday.

The cost is $300 and we will give the guide a $50

tip. That's $175 each, all in. The guide pays for

gas, does all the work and puts you on fish...

Capice?

For a lot of the guys on the BR forum this may not be your first dog and pony show but it was for me last year.  Aside from intentionally making a person not feel welcome I don't know what could have spoiled it for me.  Sure there are a couple of things which can be or were inconveniences, but looking at the big picture I can't think of anything that would make me not want to go again.  I had some priceless laughs with some who are not going this year.  But if I were able to go myself this year, there would still be more new faces and great BR members to meet.

I actually got to be pretty good friends with one ugly mug, I mean nice gentleman from Bone Gap, Il.  Sorry to here that Glenn and Keri aren't going to make it but there will still be plenty of fun and memories to be had.  heck, The group may be small this year but look at all the stories you few will have that the many of us can only read about..... 8-)

FWIW, Keri is a sweet heart and Glenn's okay; he just needs to work on holding his liquor.  Getting sloshed and swinging from the chandeliers is a little childish. :)

Sounds like a great tip RW, I will take that into consideration.

Look on the bright side. You won't have to wait for Mike to load his boat while it is on the launch ramp every morning and then have him try to crowd you off your spot. Less people means less congestion. ;D

I'm sure RW can attest to the fact that there is enough room for everyone. Don't know our cabin # yet, but BBQ nightly!

Sounds like many are still going to make the trip.  That's great.  I have to admit that I was more than a little concerned.

Hopefully more will join in the party.

It would be very helpful to know how many will still be going, and how many will be bringing boats.

I'm going, and if need be, it will be with my canoe in addition to my new boat.

The canoe, a 16 foot square stern has a beam of 42 inches, and is very stable, and comfortable.  The canoe will include a 50 pound thrust Minnkota (less than a year old), battery, charger, paddles and an Eagle Cuda fishfinder, and an anchor.  I can even include a landing net.  It is also registered.

It is a turnkey opportunity for those who may not find a seat available.  Two can fish very comfortably.  It will be available at no charge.

If it turns out there are sufficient boats, and it isn't needed, I'll leave it home.

I think im gonna go to Kentucky and Barkley that week instead. I think that is what the WV and PA contingent are going to do.

I'll be there with my boat for the duration. It will fish three people comfortably, four uncomfortably.

Also, I will be sending refunds to all those who signed up by early next week.

Nah, there won't be any spectators on that circuit to contend with, lol.

Who said anything about spectators.....I'm concerned with the other boaters safety with the before mentioned fellas on the water ;D ;D ;D

Since Greg and I can't go to Pickwick, maybe we can get together for a cold one

Ah crap this is a total bummer man. I was seriously looking forward to this trip. I've been fighting a maze of politics at work trying to make sure I get the time off like I requested. RW and Long Mike what are your plans now? I just got a new boat, but I haven't got the motor ironed (I think it's a carb issue) out yet. As long as it's fixed I could bring it. I don't want to leave anybody hanging with ya all, but I'd also like to see just how many of us are going to make it still. My club had a Roadtrip planned at Paris Landing on KY Lake that weekend. I was going to skip it so I could request the time off for our trip. Now I'm just all bummed and confused. :'( :'(

Mike and I will be there. If you and your dad decide

to cancel, please let us know. You still have half the

cabin reserved! Don't take that the wrong way, we

are not holding your feet to the fire, but I would like

to open it back up if you are not coming.

Otherwise, I'm still jazzed!

No ladies are safe anywhere with that crew. Definitely could see some jail time in the future. But we do mean well.
