Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 22, 2008 Super User Posted July 22, 2008 so who else is definitley buying one of these as soon as they come out?i sure am! I have 12 cases on order. You gotta get your orders in early with SPRO as they are SLOW to ship many times. Brad you run an online tackle shop right? what is the website? any chance of taking pre-orders? Quote

SloBasser Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 djMax22 easy on the knockoff comment! Every time a new bluegill bait comes out it's a knockoff! They're all knockoff of the real thing and there's only so many ways to do a bluegill. Matt makes an awesome bait and he was one of the first to do it right! Quote

The face shape on the Spro bait tells the story for me. No real bluegill has the face/head shape cut into it like Matt's original bluegill. That's why the Spro bait shouldn't have the same shape cut into the face/head either if a real bluegill doesn't. Look at the shape of the head in the area circled. I took these off BBZ site where Bill is trying to show the differences in the baits. I don't see any way they can argue that they didn't copy Matt's bait and then make changes. Real bluegills aren't shaped that way in that area and others like the Baitsmith bluegill don't have that shape. Looks like they used Matt's bait to shortcut instead of making their own. That why I will wait on the Tru-Tungsten shad. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 im not sure what that picture is trying to say? well i think that spro did copy mattlures, thats pretty hard to argue. but i still think they both will be great baits! im not the type who won't use a lure because its a knockoff. if the spro is cheaper than the mattlures i will give it a shot. if they are the same price, i would go with mattlures because mattlures looks a little bit better than the spro. Bassaholic84 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I agree I will buy the knockoff if its half the price of matts. It also looks a little smaller so that would be a plus to. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted August 24, 2008 Super User Posted August 24, 2008 Right on Randall! I wont fish another one of bill's baits because of this stuff. And i've poked a few big ones on the 8" bbz. Stand up for the REAL big bait makers who do it themselves! Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Every bass fisherman has knockoffs in their tackle box or boat. There is very little that is original in fishing as most baits are just tweaked versions of someone else's work. That is the norm in the tackle business. Quote
Ken_Allen Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Looks like a nice bait, but I've never caught *anything* on anything other than a worm, and plastic worms. : Quote

Stand up for the REAL big bait makers who do it themselves! Same here. The fact is the BBZ was a complete knock off the Rago Trout and now the bluegill is a complete knock off of Mattlures bluegill. Obviously it is not the first time a bait/lure has been knocked off to make some money (i.e. senko). My problem is with the consistant pattern of ripping off baits, stamping BBZ on them and calling them your own. This gives the true swimbait innovators little incentive to continue coming out with new lines when they know it will be shipped to China for mass production. djMax22 easy on the knockoff comment! Maybe do something better than scanning an original into a computer and adding another hook? At least change the scale pattern and shape. It is laughable. Quote
