Bassnajr Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Hey all, I was at BPS this past week and saw one of these lures. I am into swimbaits lately so I grabbed one. Nice looking bait...a little expensive. Anyone have any experience good or bad with these? Let me know how/where you use them, and hopefully your success stories. Thanks, ajr Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted August 23, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted August 23, 2008 I have a couple...they swim fine and should work but no fish on them yet. I have thrown other baits on the same days I used them without much success either so I don't know either way. I do know they will wear you out if you throw them long. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 They have some really nice looking colors available but I have heard some stories about them breaking at the joints and even KVD (who is sponsored by Strike King) says he switches the hooks out before using them so they probably aren't that good. paul. Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 overpriced piece of crap. there are much, much better swimbaits you can buy in that price range. Quote

Get something back for it. very good choice eddie. also jackall giron, jackall mikey, and sebile magic swimmer. these are all about the same size and price of the king shad. there are also some other great ones of different brands and bigger sizes for only slightly more. good luck with whatever you use ajr. i hope you catch a pig on whatever bait you throw. Primus Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I've had a different expierience than the other posters, I own 4 of them and have been using them a couple of seasons and have not had one break. I've also have caught a fair number of 3-4 lbers along with a couple of fives. The key to throwing this bait is wind, with it running only a couple of feet down the fish need to be roaming the shallow flats, early mornings are a prime time. What I like about this bait is that I can fish it with a fast retrieve without it turning on it's side, another positive is that it can be thrown on a regular cranking stick with no problem. This is one one of the better swimbaits I've tried along with Matt Lures bass, MS slammer and the River2Sea V joint wake minnow. I also own the Jackall Giron and this has been the most disapointing one that I've tried, anyway good luck if you decide to get one. Quote
Super User Micro Posted August 24, 2008 Super User Posted August 24, 2008 I have 6 of these baits and I've caught fish on them. They have decent actions, good hooks, and I haven't run into any issues with respect to durability - except paint durability. The paint seems to chip off very easily. Once they are used up, I won't get anymore, I have all the baits Paul recommended Jackall Girons, Mikey Jrs and Sebile Magic Swimmers (and a local store to buy them - which helps, too). I've only fished th Girons but the Girons seem to be much nicer baits. Girons sink (the SK floats), but they sink slowly and always parallel to the surface. I recommend the Girons over the SKs. Quote
djmax22 Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Had a problem with one of the joints breaking. This seems to be a common problem with the King Shad. I have had some success with SK king kong swimbait. I cant think of any good hard swimbaits in the $20 price range. I would save up a little more and get either a 9"slammer or a 3:16 baby wake. Quote
