I am looking to try a realistic swimbait very soon... what do y'all suggest for southern GA ... also if someone is frustrated with THEIR swimbait and want to give me a good deal on a used one I would appreciate that so I don't do like i NORMALLY do and go out and spend spend spend and then figure out its not my cup of tea ;)

thanks

Take a look at the Mattlures series.  The ultimate bluegill should be killer on the lakes you fish.  And you can throw it on a MH rod which means less money spent on equipment....unless you want to spend that money on a new swimbait setup  ;)

When I finally decide to pull the trigger I am sure that Mattlures is going to be one of the very short list of HAVE TO HAVES...  I like Matt's attitude...

BTW senko... start working your schedule to get down here anytime after the  1st of Sep... you can reveal a secret or two  ;)

Al,

If I were you, I would also PM Randal (if they don't respond)....  because I know they are in Ga and have been known to chuck a swimbait or two.  ...lol

I have a number of Matt's baits (I like the baby bass best) and they work well.  You might look at the mission fish also, to fish in/around weeds and cover.  I hear the baby Hud's are also top notch... but I won't be able to confirm that for a couple weeks.  ...lol

Glad to know you are home safe and sound!!!

I've had huge success with the MS slammer as a learner bait.  IT FLOATS!  Make sure this is a characteristic of whatever you choose, you don't want to be out $40 the 1st time out.

As a matter of fact, if you can hold off a bit, I'll make you one.  Can't get to it till next week, but if you already have the gear to throw it, I'll make it.  Let me know.

Another cool to bait to watch for when it finally comes out will be the SPRO BBZ1 Shad.  They are just the right size IMO to work anywhere a bass swims.  These baits are gonna be awesome and not too expensive either, probably around $18-$20 retail.

Now is SPRO would just start shipping them!

Thanks Russ hat would be awesome of you if it wouldn't be too much trouble.... with the hurricane hitting down south we are getting a lot of rain... so I doubt I will even be able to get out until next week.. and yes I have the rod and reel already... so just need to get some baits..

Thanks for all the suggestions...

Raul what is that one? Sorry I am kind of out of the loop on this stuff

I just tried out my Tru-tungsten tru-life (perch) swimbait. It has the weight balls for different depths. I didn't use any of the weights just as a floater. Liked the profile of it in the water , looked pretty realistic. Also when working it in by jerking I noticed it did a complete one-eighty in the water after it came to a rest. Seems like to me that would really make a big ole bass mad if his prey turned around to look at him.

Here is the way I look at swimbaits in GA. You need to match the profile and action of the bait as close as possible but color don't have to be exact just close in most cases. The two main types of forage are gizzard shad and bluegill. We also have some trout, perch, and herring in some lakes. So, try to match the forage in the lakes you fish with a swimbait. All lakes and ponds in GA have bluegill so Matt's bluegill is a must have. My second choice is a hard jointed bait to match a bluegill and I personally like the Tru-Tungsten bluegill since I can change out the weights to get differrent fall rates. The second forage you probably have where you are fishing is a gizzard shad. I sent you a PM to tell you the one I use that is soft plastic. ;) The hard baits that are good gizzard shad imitations are double jointed baits. Some good ones are some of the Rago baits, Tripple Trouts, Sebile baits, and the Mattlures Woody in the trout pattern since the fish just sees the bottom and the action and I have been wearing out big fish on it this spring and summer. I also just noticed that Tru-Tungsten makes a hard saltwater bait that might be a good gizzard shad imitation with the different sink rates. I also have the three BBZ baits in the photo that I will sell you for cheap. Nothing wrong with them and two are like new and haven't been used. I just decided not to use Spro products and use other brands so I am getting rid of them cheap. You can get the whole set shipped to you minus the hooks with the fast sink , slow sink , and floater for $60. If you want them send me a PM.

Here 's the way I look at swimbaits here in Mexico. You don 't need to match the profile and the action of the bait as close as possible color you can choose whatever color you like, as long as the bait moves and acts like if was alive and an easy prey the fish will strike it.
