Red worm hooks ?

Is there any benefit to using red worm hooks? Or is it just hype?

I think it's hype.  I bought some 2 years ago and tried them and in my one little comparative test to black nickel they made no difference at all.  I don't think they are a deterent, but they are no advantage either.

When the red wears off you have a gold hook.  I don't care for gold hooks either.

I bought some because they were decent priced and I did not see any significant changes. They do look cool in the water but the ones I had did not hold the red very well.

The only time I use red hooks on plastics is with Senko style baits (either wacky rigging or t-rigging them). From what I have found, when I've scuffed the red off the hooks (from catchin bass   ) the bite dies off. I'll switch the hook out for a fresh one and I'll start catching again. I've tried them I've tried them with worms, creature baits and tubes and if anything I believe my action decreases.  :-?  I definitely do better with hooks with a black nickel finish with them.

Also have found no differance for Bass. Used them for Walleye fishing and have found an improved bite though.

The awesome thing about red hooks is that they DISAPPEAR underwater! I also use red line because it simulates blood.  ;D

Seriously, I don't think you'll notice a difference among red, black, silver, or gold hooks. You may think you do, but when you think about it, we think a lot of things, I think

I personally don't think they do much more as a appose to any other hook. But i say that you should use what have confidence in, if you don't have confidence in them than don't use them. ad if you do, great!

For worms I always use a blood hook but never tested it.  On crank baits I have thrown one with regular hooks and got no bite, then the same one with blood trebles instead, and got one...?  Ever since then I've been sold and use blood hooks on everything.

Why not use every advantage you can...

Last time I went to purchase hooks there were a big bunch of red hooks vs a pack of black ones, they were 50 cents per pack cheaper than the black so I got 20 packs of red ones, theonly difference was what I saved.

Like Raul said. The only difference would be in a savings if any. I personally have tried them and can not tell a bit of difference, whether on plastics or crankbaits.

I've never seen a difference... go with whats cheaper and if you love the red.. there's always paiting them yourself.

when the color wears off i change the hook.i always have a sharp hook that way.i use black and red.i see no difference in catch rates.i know it doesn't scare the fish.i choose based on my mood for the day.
