i had trouble getting good casting distance w/ this frog.... how are you finding it? i like the subtle action when the bite calls for it, but...

It's a lot smaller than the horny toad or rage tail.  So I think it cast right where it should given its size and weight.  I never cast frogs too far so I haven't had any issue with distance.

There are a lot of quality frog baits on the market that catch fish.  My personal favorites for hollow body frogs are the SPRO Bronzeye Jr. and the River 2 Sea Bully Wa 55.  I like the slightly smaller frogs as they cast well and the fish get the frog better when they strike and I get better hookups, but that's just me, others like the bigger frogs, especially if they have big fish in their waters.

For toads, I like the Horny Toad, Cane Toad and Rage Tail Toad.  There are a lot of good hooks for these baits and I really like one that is slightly weighted to the toad rides upright.

As mentioned, another great bait is the Scumfrog Bigfoot.  It is a floating frog with paddle feet.  Kinda like a cross between a Scumfrog and a Cane Toad.  

SPRO has a new fog coming out, the Bronzeye Popper and it should be a great bait.

Other cool frog type baits I like are the DEPS Basirisky and the Snagproof Wiggle Wog.

As for tackle, 50lb. Power Pro and a 7'6" flipping stick is my frog rig.  That line cuts through grass and combined with the long, stout rod, the fish WILL come to the boat regardless of how buried in the grass it trys to get.

The Spro Bronzeye has never let me down before. In tournaments, I'll throw the Bronzeye Jr. in black until I get a limit, then pick up the larger size in black to work on the bigger fish. Braid is a must, you want to drive the hook home bigtime, or you'll just end up with a frog smacking you in the face at around 20mph.

I've heard some awesome stuff about the Cane Toad, just never got around to trying it.

save yourself some trouble.  unless you are looking for an inconsitent gurgle, tangled feet, rolling toad, etc.

So far I like the scumfrog popper and the scumfrog bigfoot frog best. The Spro Bronze - Eye is a good one too.

Does anyone here still do well on the original snagg proof frog, with the natural looking legs? I have noticed the legs are stiff and without much action.

If you are throwing frogs, you need a bare minimum of 14 pound mono, even for small bass. I prefer mono for all surface lure applications.
