Super User Catt Posted August 17, 2008 Super User Posted August 17, 2008 From time to time I'm asked to evaluate produces for friends who want my option on certain lure, rods, reels, and marine accessories and for a year I did Product Evaluation for Academy Sports and outdoors. Recently a couple of products and one technique were brought to my attention. The first evaluation is actually a procedure or technique; in the past couple of months the subject of deep hook removal was brought up on the site and our boss Glenn mentioned the technique of turning the hook to one side or the other to remove the hook thought the gills. I'm 56 years old and have been involved in the fishing business my entire life and how this technique eluded me is beyond believe. I take great pride in staying on top of new products and techniques but this one zoomed right past but let me tell y'all this one works; it should be taught to newbie's and veterans alike. The second evaluation is of Rattle HeadTM spinner baits, buzz baits, and jigs; I would first like to offer my apologizes for not being faster at getting your produce tested. Let me say up front I did not try the spinner or buzz bait as of yet but I did have a buddy who fishes tournaments on Rayburn and Toledo in whom I have the utmost trust try both. While he has not won a tournament with your lures he does use both to put a quick limit in the boat but he predicts by this fall look for a win. Now this leaves me to evaluate the jig (y'all can't see it but a big grin come over the authors face) one of my favorite lures. This is one jig y'all need to add to your arsenal if you fish areas that offer brush and timber as primary cover. I've read that the hook is too small but I find it quite the opposite while this is not a heavy cover jig it is a jig that performs well in sparse cover. With jigs you must match trailer to the gap of the hook, I've seen picture of this jig with a Zoom Chunk threaded all the way up the hook; that would be the wrong way to attach a trailer to this jig. The third evaluation is of Rage Tails New Generation of lures the Anaconda, Lizard, Space Monkey, and Lobster; I have three words for y'all Believe the Hype. What caught my attention while watching the video was the lizard and its unbelievable action; I will plan a trip to the Big Pond just too personally try these baits. When it comes to plastics it is close to impossible to get my attention because I firmly believe in the power of Gene Larew products but Steve you got me with these. To all members of Bass Fishing Resource get your hands on these products cause y'all will be impressed. Tommy T Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 17, 2008 Super User Posted August 17, 2008 Thanks for the info, Catt. Will try to find them and see how they perform in Virginia. Great report. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 17, 2008 Super User Posted August 17, 2008 hmm it really is a shame that a lot of people are fishing these new ragetails (anaconda, space monkey, lobster) with great success but they are not for sale to the general public yet... > anyway, good reviews! Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Reaching through the gill area to reverse a hook so that it is easily removed has saved many, many fish for me that have been deep hooked. I'm suprised that more people do not know to do this, but I seldom fish with anyone who knows to try it when they deep hook a fish. Just be very careful so as not to damage the gills. Get too rough on the gills and all your work to save the fish will be for nothing. Brad Quote

MARSH MASTER Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Rage Tail is taking over, its the future of plastics and they are going to be hard to beat. Steve realy set the bar high. Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I'm a firm believer in rage tail baits. I love working with Steve and I love using the products. They are unique and they do make a difference. With rattlehead baits, I love their spinnerbaits. I tweaked mine to fit my spinnerbait style a little better, but they are fish catching machines. Good reviews Catt. Quote
Big-O Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Thanks for your comments fellas. One of my mentors (and there have been many) once said, "If you're gonna go anyway.....You might as well lead". So I do what I can. Big O Quote
rondef Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I have to agree the rage tail baits produce nice bass period. I have caught nice size bass on the shad, toads and the anacondas. I am hoping to catch some nice bass this week when I throw the space monkeys at a trophy managed pond. Steve you are the man, you have designed baits that are second to none. In my opinion these are the best soft plastic on the market. Thanks Steve for your hard work and dedication to provide these great soft plastic baits for us to use. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 18, 2008 Super User Posted August 18, 2008 I'm really looking forward to try the anacondas! This will actually be my first experience with them. Some reason i just haven't gotten into them. Quote
