Re-oiling plastics for storage

Does anyone re-oil worms and plastics for storage?  I guess mineral oil wood be the oil to use.

I had heard mineral oil would leech the color out of worms, is this true?

I ask because I was ignorant and bought a crap load of worms a couple of months ago and I took them out of their bags and put them in plastic boxes in my tackle box, they started drying out, so now I want to put them back into some sort of storage system and re-oil them.

If mineral oil is not good for them, what oil is used when originally packing them and can general public this oil?

Not true, mineral oil ( liquid parafin ) is inert. Some colors bleed out from the baits, two of the most notorious ones are chratreuse and red shad which btw is the king of the bleeding colors ( red shad will bleed out with or without oil ).

The oil you find in bait bags is mineral oil, it may be scented or not.

Do not use kitchen oil, kitchen oil is not inert and decomposes at contact with the oxygen turning rancid.

I strongly suggest not to store plastic baits directly into the worm wallet bags, they are not perfectly sealed and the oil will ooze through the seams and mess up everything, get freezer bags to store the baits and the worm wallet to store the freezer bags.

Is storing plastics important?  I've never heard of this, and I leave all my plastics in a plastic tray in my tackle box.  I notice they arent as slimy as they were when I purchase them, but how much of a difference does that make?

I see they have a coffee/shad scent.  In regards to another post here, about coffee tubes, it seems that Strike King would have the patent on that particular odor.

I use Fish Formula II or Baitmate (clear) with a ½ oz of pure anise oil added

Mineral oil is chemically INERT, it can 't make baits harder because it doesn 't react with the plastic.

Tell whomever told you that if he ever wants to see how soft 40 bags of 20+ years old Culprit worms look he 's very much welcomed.
