mdmaynard Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Walk farther than the average joes to get to less pressured spots. I am a non-boater wisturkeyhunter is correct. I use a lot of maps to look for old oil field roads that lead close to the lake and such. A LOT of walking for sure... Quote
mayassa Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I walk the river all the time in my waders ;D Quote
bigfruits Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 get a canoe or kayak! i bought a used canoe a few yrs ago, best 300 dollars ive ever spent. Quote
Movarus Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 While I love to get out on the water, heck sometimes just for the simple pleasure of being out there, I don't have a boat either. So I wade in rivers and fish from the shore most of the time. I can tell you, my two best fish have come from the secret pond me and my buddy found. 8-) Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted August 15, 2008 Super User Posted August 15, 2008 Sometimes all that is needed is to get a little farther out from shore... or change the casting angle to come from in the water. A float tube can be a pretty satisfactory vessel to fish from in these situations. Quote
bmuskin Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I look for non boat accessible areas. I love strip pits and smaller neglected ponds. My neighbor tells me he catches less fish since he got his boat. He spends more time looking for them than fishing according to him. I have thought about one of the plastic 2 seaters though. Would fit in the back of my trailer and maybe save some blood loss from briars. Quote
Evan Sharp Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 god i cant tell u how much i walk in one year walking to fishing holes i prefer gravel pits with are never racking because of the illegal fishing but is sure worth it im trying to get a boat but my parents excuse for me 2 not get one is "No you will throw you're life away and become a pro fisher"...... so i about slapped them and said whats the prolbem with that Quote

You need a kayak. Mine only weighs about 50 lbs, floats in about 6" of water, extremely quiet, and no battery/trolling motor/registration fees. Quote

guitarkid Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 A couple in my neighbor hood moved down from New York and they let us use their pond prowler. I would highly suggest one. They are very stable. But walking down the bank does pay off. -tumnus Quote
