BlakeMolone Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Do the storm swimbaits work very good? Quote
Aaron Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 If you do a search you will find many threads discussing these. Most of what I have heard has been negative. Welcome to the forum, there is a whole lot of good info here, as well as some grea articles. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 12, 2008 Super User Posted August 12, 2008 Some work well, but I don 't mean X model works well or Y models works well, I mean some like 1 in 6 work well, others are just plain junk. Quote
Castamasta Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 they are cheap and so is their action and quality Quote
MillerTime Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I got a bad batch from wally world... They swim really good! ;D ;D ;D Quote
CookieMonst3r Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Most hate them, but I find them quite useful. The action isn't bad, and they catch fish. Quote
guitarkid Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 stick a weight in a tube sock and you might catch something bigger. Those things are terrible. The cranks are'nt that bad though. -searoach Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 13, 2008 Super User Posted August 13, 2008 only storm swimbait i will use is the kickin minnow, but those are very fragile and will tear up after a few good fish due to the thin segments. but they are cheap like 2 or 3 dollars each and they work well. the standard wild eye swimbaits that im assuming you're talking about are pretty bad though. CRFisher Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Do they (Storm) make the Hurricane Live Wire Shad? They look just like the Storms, bought a cheap pack at KMart on clearance, fish OK. I've heard dip boiling the Storms help the action. I left the Hurricanes in my car for a few days in the 90 degree heat and they have softened up and have OK action. One bite thus far but I've only really fished them for about 15 minutes. I only got them because they cast a mile and fishing from shore I can reach some places I can't reach with better baits, also not worried to lose them. Quote
BlakeMolone Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Any body have any recomendations of some good swimbaits that I could find at Acadamey or Wallmart? Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 13, 2008 Super User Posted August 13, 2008 Any body have any recomendations of some good swimbaits that I could find at Acadamey or Wallmart? The only Academy stores I visit regularily are the one in MacAllen and the one in Mission, never seen anything worth buying in either. Wally World ? forget it ! Do yourself a favor, order some Mattlures Baby Bass from his site or from *** ( free shipping over 50 dollars ). Quote

-ebby- Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I hate just about all the storm swimbaits, but if you have alot of small pike the ones that look like pike have a bigger tail and more action. They are the only ones i think are decent Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Any body have any recomendations of some good swimbaits that I could find at Acadamey or Wallmart? Walmart sells a pre-rigged Lake Fork Live Magic Shad for around $2.50 a pop. Great lures. They only last a couple of fish though. 1000x better than anything storm puts out. Quote
BlakeMolone Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 I may have to try the lake fork ones. Quote
lknbassman Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Yup, stay clear of the Storm baits. That's $4 just going down the drain. They are junk. Lots of better options out there for you and that's for sure. Quote

Lots of better options out there for you and that's for sure. I guess we all have our lures. Personally the Wildeye series this last month has caught me a good number of quality fish. While the Berkley Hollow Belly has caught me crap and sits next to several riped up wildeye baits that fish have just destroyed. Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 14, 2008 Super User Posted August 14, 2008 Bought a wildeye Blugill on sale at BPS and it comes back to the boat sideways. No tuning would help. I removed the hooks and gave it to my kid. It looks great though! :-X Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 14, 2008 Super User Posted August 14, 2008 If you need to fish fast or real deep they (Wild Eye Swim Shad ) are better than most any other swimbait. They are one of the top producers for deep fish at Lake Fork. They are also a top producer for saltwater fishing just for those reasons. Each model of swimbaits marketed has their best performance for a certain application, just purchase the one that suits the presentation you seek to employ. Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Get yourself some Mattlures MAttshads. *** has the 2.5" ones that weigh 1/3 oz for $7.99 for two they are very durable plastics and have way better action then any storm. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Like someone said its been hashed and re-hashed. I've caught many 4,3,2 lb bass on them, 3 -5 lb channel cat, nice crappie you name it. The bass were from lakes that you seldom see a bass of 4lbs usualy much less. I love 'em. People complain that they don't run properly. sometimes that is the case but a 2 second adjustment and it will run perfect. people often talk of "tuning a $15 crankbait these are no different just 50cents thogh. Everyone I've ever shown them to has caught fish on them. I met for the first time and fished with Farmpond1 recently. He was skeptical until he watched me fish with them and he is now a firm believer. it probably has a lot to do with fishing styles and what works for one person and not another. Neither opinion is totaly right or wrong. just my .02 FFI- Matt Crum Quote

Flywatersmallie Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 They look cool, QC leaves something to be desired though. I got a bunch of free ones from the sales rep a couple years ago. They worked alright, like was said before, about every third one worked properly. Some the lead was molded weird so the body would naturally lean, some the plastic covering was far thicker on one side than the other. Got a few fish on them and I could see that they would work well in the right conditions (provided you got a good batch) Quote
