IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Do you guys use scents? I use to youse them all the time and now I have found myself not using them. Is there one brand that is best? What do you guys use...if any. Quote
Valascus Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 If I am using a scent I use Megastrike. Stays on the lure pretty darn well. Quote
Will Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Megastrike; clean, efficient, and will last forever on a bait. Never go without it, if its cold I stick it in my pocket. Quote
GobbleDog Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 On my non-scented worms, I don't use nutin. I tried scents a few years back, but quit using them because I didn't notice a difference and it was a pain to keep dousing them with juice which appeared to wash off as soon as it hit the water anyway. The scented worms I use are Chompers (a senko style worm) which absolutely reeks of garlic right out of the bag and will stink up your whole house if you don't remove it, even after use. I'm not exagerating... they really smell that potent. But they definately work extremely well. Quote
Valascus Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I believe that is what Senko77 uses. He speaks highly of it. Like Will said though...for the most bang for your buck that I have seen, Megastrike is good stuff. Quote
Vyron Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Has anyone used Carolina lunker sauce? Yes, carolina lunker and megastrike are my favourites Quote
Top Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I couldn't help it.. I saw kickin bass and picked it up... even with new tube "stopper" in it I could smell the garlic... I mean WOW!!!!!! I had it in my car and after a couple of days I had to take it out... I thought the jar had sprung a leak... nope its just that strong!!!! Can't wait to use it on some senkos!!! AL Quote
flippin4it. Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Jacks Juice is where it's at, It comes in a airosol can. I use the lizard and craw. Quote
BiggerWorm Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I primarily fish plastic, I will take my unscented baits and place them in a plastic bag. I than squirt some chompers garlic scent in the bag and let set overnight before a tournament. To be honest I can't say I do any better with or without scents. Quote
teambassbuster85 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 yum atractant in crawdad is my favorite Quote
Guest avid Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I don't use scents often, but I like the way they freshen up plastics that have been sitting around awhile. They definitly make the baits softer and improve the movement. I use smelly jelly because I find the little jar to be very convenient. Next time I will probably use megastrike because I hear so much about it, but I don't think I'll be needing any for awhile. Quote
Ranger 482 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I have enjoyed success with Spike-it aerosols in garlic and crawfish flavors. Spike-it also makes an aerosol called slime-it. This actually helps put a slime coat on your lure and helps it come through cover better. I have also found that using a scent gives me a little boost of confidence. Good luck! Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks, Looks like I will try some Megastrike and Lunker sauce. Pretty wide selection of scents. Quote
John Cullum Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Megastrike is sold as a scent like all the other companies but it is a differant kind of "scent". Yes, Megastrike has a scent to it but it's made up of Amino Acids and Proteins that bass and fish in general taste on a dailey basis. It's not packed with garlic or a sweet anise Megastrike scent is a Natural scent. It's also comes in a tooth paste like tube so you use what you need. It's not in an aerosal can that spray into the wind and all over everything else and hopefully gets on your baits as well. There is very little wasted product when you use Megastrike which means your money goes further. I use it 100% of the time I fish soft plastics because I know that the fish will hold on to a bait longer if Megastrike has been applied to it. That extra second or two is a great thing when your money is on the line. One nice fish can make or break your day whether your fishing a tourney or just fun fishing. I can think of many reason to use scent and can't think of one legit reason not too. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 15, 2006 Super User Posted March 15, 2006 i use smelly jelly bassfeast paste.megastrike is also good.both stay on longer than most others.scent does not attract fish.it just makes them hold on longer giving you more time to set the hook.it can also mask scents that would cause a bass to spit your bait out. JT Bagwell Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I am with the majority here, MegaStrike is the only way to go. For those that didn't know, a year or so ago Yamamoto and MegaStrike joined forces to produce the Gary Yamamoto Crawfish scented MegaStrike. It is the same awesome MegaStrike, but now it has a crawfish smell to it. You can get it at http://***/cgi-bin/order/39-YAMA-MEGA?GiiWFtDj;;118 JT Bagwell Quote
Nick_Barr Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I have found a great scent that not many bass fisherman know about, Atlas Mike's Lunker Lotion, this stuff stays on for an hour on a Crankbait!! Also it is water based so it slowly dilutes in the water unlike oil scents, I use it on everything if the bite is tough. They were mainly made for salmon fishing and then made it into the bass market. For Marinading your soft plastics before a tournament i use Upper Hand Hawg Sauce, it atually seeps into the baits!!!! Super User roadwarrior Posted March 15, 2006 Super User Posted March 15, 2006 Personally, I'm not convinced scent is particularily important, but I still sometimes use it with soft plastics. Although I happen to have several brands that I have collected over the years, MegaStrike is the only one I use. The scent may be special, I don't really know, but the key factor for me is "ease of use." MegaStrike is similar to Vaseline to the touch. It disperses easily without mess or waste, is easily transported, doesn't stink and lasts longer than my baits! Quote
mike bat Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 i like mega strike but i will be trying a new sent also cbs hawg sauce i hear great things about this stuff so i will try it out now theres olny one bait i dont use a sent on and it is CHOMPERS baits they are great the smell that eminates off theses baits is crazy also they are fish catchers i really like the twin tail grub this bait is nutts here you tie one on and you wont be sorry also i have to tell ya if you are going on a date the same day as you are fishing try a different bait cause these guys stink all last summer my truck reaked like chompers so i was looking through my truck when i saw my rod had a grub on the end of it so i gave it a smell and you geussed it one grub stunk my truck up badd Quote
The_Natural Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I use Jack's Juice garlic oil or Lake Fork Tackle 'Hawg Wild' garlic spray. I find aerosol cans to be the least messy and easiest to apply. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 15, 2006 Super User Posted March 15, 2006 Species that rely heavily on their sense of smell all possess barbels, bass are sight feeders. All the same, there are just too many variables to prove that scent does or does not work. Like many facets of fishing, scent is a mind game and the scent manufacturers are the benefactors. If they relied on my business though, I'm afraid they'd all be Chapter 11 Roger Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-33449 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I use my own product! Upper Hand Scents-Marinades. I was sick and tired of using lame scents that dissipated way to quickly. I see a few guys on this thread are using Upper Hand Scent-Marinades:). The company is new, but it's getting noticed fast and furious!!!! SOFT PLASTIC SCENT RETENTION AT IT'S BEST.
