Dalton Tam Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 My buddy was a happy camper, lol. We caught these in two hours, it was a good day. I hear that they are catching them better now than when we caught them a month ago but it's time to put the "perch jerkin" equipment up and catch some PIGS! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 24, 2011 Super User Posted February 24, 2011 Hokie Smokes, are there any left in the water! You must have had a great day, congrats. Quote
JigMe Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Great catch, but leave some in the water for other folks, will ya? Quote
Dalton Tam Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 LOL we only went for a couple of hours. I didn't put any hurt on the population at all. I talked with a guy that caught 160 this weekend and my buddy bagged close to 5000 shiners Saturday morning at the store. Our home lake is one of the best crappie lakes I've ever heard of in my life. This picture just come from the first time I actually went "Crappie" fishing. I am a bass fisherman at heart. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted February 24, 2011 Super User Posted February 24, 2011 My dad goes crappie fishing every chance he gets....Last weekend he caught 82 out of one tree in 6 hours....I wish I would have taken a picture of them.....none under 1.5lbs Quote
BASSINATORBIGJOE Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Crappie......AKA..........Sacalait........Sack-a-lay.....French for sack of milk.....refering to the succulent white filets.............Le Bon Temps Roulez........Mike 8-) Quote
bassman31783 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yum ;D Looks like you had a great time for sure. Quote
farmpond1 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 "I didn't put any hurt on the population at all." That's what they said about the passenger pigeon, too. :-[ Sorry to bust your chops. Be careful what you say, though. Call someplace paradice, kiss it goodbye. Too many people treat crappie like an inexhaustible resource and keep way too many (IMHO). Quote
whiterockjesse1 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 i disagree . crappie are plentiful and abundant . as long as you dont go over the limit your ok . there is a reason state biologist work with the fish and game dept. on limit amounts . good job young man , looks like a fish fry coming up Quote
hookingem Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Congrats, but taking out this many crappie puts a hurt on the population even if its a small one if everyone kept this many every time they fished I guarantee you would notice a downturn. Regardless nice Crappie! Quote

bigredxlt Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I think it is funny that some fishermen criticize your catch thinking they know better than the biologists who set the catch limits. Quote
farmpond1 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I think it is funny that some fishermen criticize your catch thinking they know better than the biologists who set the catch limits. Biologists (and, more likely, politicians) often cow down to pubic pressure. Quote
bigredxlt Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 haha pubic pressure? haha sorry that was too funny of a typo to ignore. I work in politics and promise you politicians could care less what the limits on crappie are. Those limits are set by biologists who are rarely exposed to any public or political pressure especially when it comes to limits on fish. Quote
