LunkerBandit Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 The pond by my house was just stocked with farm trout. I have a little Shakespeare reel and a 7' UL Ugly Stick. What would be the best rig and bait to catch trout in a small, dirty pond? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 1, 2010 Super User Posted December 1, 2010 Berkley Power Trout Dough on a catfish rig. Slide a small egg weight onto mainline, tie on a barrel swivel, tie an 18" leader to that, and then a small hook. Use just enough dough to float the hook. Quote
NateFollmer Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Stocked trout? Throw them a gold hook! Works around here anyway I think the people who raise our stockies turn them into idiot fish. Waxworms are another decent trout catcher too. Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 1, 2010 Super User Posted December 1, 2010 Corn Kernals, Power Dough, etc. Those things are raised on liver or corn pellets so they key in on stuff that looks/smells like that. It takes a bit for them to figure out bugs as food. Use a LONG shank hook to make unhooking easier and prevent swallowing. Stoking isn't that cheap so do your part to preserve the investment. Quote
LunkerBandit Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 One things for sure I'll take full advantage of it. Thanks guys I'm going friday and I'll let you know how it goes Quote
LunkerBandit Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Well I still haven't caught one. Got a couple to nibble on power bait but I couldn't hook one Quote
Triton21 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Small Panther Martin black with gold blade and yellow dots inline spinner. This is a killer bait for trout. I have had a 6 fish limit in 6 cast more than once in a stocked stream. Kelley Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 White roostertail has always been the ticket for me! Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 12, 2011 Global Moderator Posted February 12, 2011 Try the new Gulp eggs. I've never had much luck with the powerbait dough but those eggs are killer! A little expensive but if they work I figure they're worth it. Just make a small carolina rig basically with a salmon egg hook on the end and 2 eggs should float the hook off the bottom. My best color combo has been one white and one pink egg. Color does seem to make a difference for me. Quote
B A S S E R Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 orange trout nibblets on a bobber or fished on the bottom. couple on a salmon egg hook and toss it out there. Quote

X2 the corn works! Also, this will sound stupid, but a small ball/square of cheese. I got my largest freshwater fish on that. A Rainbow, stocked pond, ok, I will post the picture 2morrow he was probably 30+" Quote
