Missouribassman95 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Nice fish. Where'd you catch em? Quote
bass or bass ? Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Nice catch. I love catfishing Me too. I fish with a baited hook while casting for bass and stripers. I never use liver anymore. For flatheads I use live bluegill, the larger the better. For channels I now use frozen squid. Caught my pb in February on squid. Quote
SmokeRise1 Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 FROZEN SQUID.... I love that idea. I'm in North Jersey only about 20 miles from Manhattan. My club is having a Triathalon next weekend (at least that's what we're calling it) to signal the end of warm/soft water fishing. We're doing a bass tourny in the morning followed by a bar-b-que and horseshoe tourny in the afternoon and ending with a catfish tournament from 8:00 until midnight. I will see if I can find some squid for a secret weapon. Quote

Best bait for channels, blues. In a pinch a ball of crappie minnows works too but not as effective for larger fish. If you can't get a hold of that then squid or raw shrimp left out for a while works pretty decent. Channels are predatory fish just like bass or the lot of them. They crash schools of bait depsite popular belief they typically don't go scrounging along the bottom eating muck. Quote

AWESOME action, plus scent! If you have an Asian supermarket in your area they always have frozen squid. Quote
