Super User Dwight Hottle Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 I just got back from a one week fishing trip at lake athabasca in northern Saskatchewan Canada. My buddy & I caught over 600 pike for the week opener. We had 13 fish boated over 20 lbs. Our biggest fish was 29 lbs. We had two 27lbers, a 26lb, 24lb, 23lb & numerous 20-22 lbers. Best two baits were a lc pointer 128 & a blue fox vibrax spinner with orange fluted french blade. What a slimy week it was! Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I am absolutely jealous! I love pike fishing, but have yet a chance to fish for lunker that size! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 What a great trip that must have been !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 Just outstanding - you must have had a permanent grin for a week ! I can't imagine catching 600 fish in a week (or 600/2=300 ea) ! Here I was a bit jazzed in catching about 110 fish so far in the month of June... ;D Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Great looking fish! Those 128's must have taken a beating. How many times did you have to change out the hooks? Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted June 22, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2010 LCM, I onlu used one lc pointer 128 for the whole week. I only used the tail treble hook which I replaced once. The bait lost most of the paint & coloration. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted June 23, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2010 Is that Larry Czonka in a couple of pics? Nope. The guy with the moustache is my Barberton chicken eating high school friend. Quote
dmac14 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Wow. Each one of those fish would be a once in a lifetime for me. I did a fly in to northern Quebec, biggest pike was ~10 pounds. That is simply amazing. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 23, 2010 Super User Posted June 23, 2010 Wow. Each one of those fish would be a once in a lifetime for me. Me too. My biggest is an 18 lb. from Conesus. Simply outstanding, once again Dwight! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Wow, Those are impressive numbers and size! Looks like the trip of a lifetime. Congrats. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 WOO-HOO! Man, what a trip. Great fish and great pics! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 25, 2010 Super User Posted June 25, 2010 Holy Smokes Dwight ! You did it again ! 600 pike in a week, that's a life time of fish for most of us. I caught two last week and I thought that I was the man - haha. If you were out for 8 hours each day ~ that's a fish every 5 minutes and 36 seconds ! Your guide certainly earned his tip that week. A-Jay Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted June 27, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 27, 2010 A-Jay, what helped the total count was one day we had 120 fish before lunch! Ended that day with 145 & then quit early. We even managed to catch a few of these bonus fish. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 27, 2010 Super User Posted June 27, 2010 "120 fish before lunch" WOW ! That's just obscene. Those "bonus" lakers are gorgeous. I've also wanted to make Canadian pike / laker trip. By the looks of this one you guys had decent weather and a great time. Thank you for sharing Dwight A-Jay Quote
farmpond1 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Holy Schneikies! That's one heck of a good haul! Nice going. I'm jealous. Quote

swimbait Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Man, what an awesome trip. Thanks for sharing! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 Thats AWESOME!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!! We have nothern pike here in CT and i think there overlooked. We plan on going after them soon. BB In some of the smaller ponds/lakes I catch a 25" to 30" pickerel sometimes and what a fight it is. I don't mind taking a break catching bass to land a big pickerel. My point is i can't believe what a fight it would be with a northern. Quote
