Pez Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 theres was this article on North American fisherman with a part of the video tv series.... Quote
NateFollmer Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I remember seeing that on WFN. That is nuts. I don't think I'd even take a Kayak out in the ocean let alone fish in the ocean with one HA. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 On my saltwater forum there are quite a few kayakers, I've met some in person. Being towed by a good size fish is a common story. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 It's quickly becoming a popular thing. I can't remember the last time this year that I've gone offshore to do some trolling for Billfish and Dolphin that I haven't seen some kayaks milling around a larger boat. He's lucky he didn't hook up with a large Marlin. Four and a half, five hours, on a small Marlin is just plain silly. I understand he was using 20lb test, but you're seriously doing damage to the fish at that point. You can see how brown he is at the end of the video. Hopefully they took a good while to revive it behind the large boat. Quote
FutureSoldier Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Just watched it and boy is that something. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 That is why i only fish for bass from a kayak ;D Quote
bass or bass ? Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Shades of Spencer Tracy in the movie of Ernest Hemmingway's "The Old Man and the Sea". Terrific movie. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 4, 2010 Super User Posted July 4, 2010 That is why i only fish for bass from a kayak ;D bass fisherman are weenies ;D Great feat, but that fish does not look 300#, not saying that it isn't. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Sounds like fun, like catching Amber-jack off a wreck or deep dropping for deep pelagic fish without an electric reel. Saltwater guys really must love to work! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Hardest fight I ever with a fish was a 100# amberjack in Puerto Vallarta. Totally different kind of fight than a marlin, not that the marlin isn't awesome, but they are runners and jumpers, the amberjack you gotta pull off the bottom. Big ray may about the hardest fight of any of them. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 10, 2010 Super User Posted July 10, 2010 I've caught a couple of big rays before, that is one awesome fight. I've never hooked up with a large AJ before, the smaller ones that I've caught though have been fantastic fights. I think my favorite fighting fish is probably a large tuna, wahoo, or kingfish though. Just the sheer power and long runs they make is awesome. Make sure you've got some decent gear though or you may be buying a new reel after hauling in a decent fish. Big Dolphin can be fun too, but the fights don't last all that long unless you're using light tackle. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 Can't tell ya how many times I've seen a " professional " tourney bass fisherman ( like they really are ) go on a party boat with their bass outfits and going king or bonita fishing thinking they are some kind of hot shot, only to see their equipment not last the trip. Heard 1 say I catch 10# bass on this rig with no problem.....too funny. Quote
