CRFisher Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Don't want to get into Brand A vs Brand B too much but was wondering if there's anything I'm missing in the arsenal. I'm trying to build up decent tackle options without going broke and just got back into the game so started in April from scracth I currently have: Hardbaits: X-Rap, Husky Jerk, rapala minnow and rapala knockoffs RattleTrap Manns Baby minus Zara Spook and puppy Jitterbug Heddon Torpedo Multiple Spinnerbaits, some buzzbaits Multiple inline spinners Spoons - Daredevle (red) kastmaster (blue and silver) and a few others Jigs - fantasy football jig, booyah bitsy jig Plastic: Powerworms Senkos Trick worm 4 inch tubes buzzfrogs craws Single and twin tail grubs Flukes Top water frog (like a Spro) some basspro lizards Any key lure types that I'm missing? Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 5, 2008 Super User Posted August 5, 2008 That's a solid list. I wish mine was still that simple. lol Quote
skillet Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Man, did you leave yourself wide open for spending some real money ;D!!! I'll just add Brush Hogs and Baby Brush Hogs by ZOOM in green pumkin... As Ever, skillet Quote
CookieMonst3r Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Nothing "key", but I see that you're missing deep diving cranks, creature baits, wake baits, and swimbaits. All I could find. Quote
wisturkeyhunter Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 You could do fine with what you have but I'd add some fat ikas to the list. Quote
quant PT Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Some kind of beavertail creature ( Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver, Bass Assassin Eager Beaver). A few Cavitron Buzzbaits ( I firmly believe there is a big difference between these and other buzzbaits). That and maybe some shakey heads or spot removers. These are things that have worked well for me and if they work for me, they'll work for anyone! ;D Give up on trying to stop buying baits before you're broke. The baitmonkey won't stand for it. Just give in and buy everything you like - its easier that way. I've started from scratch this spring also and I'd probably get sick if I had to list out everything I've bought ( especially when I find myself using the same go to baits most of the time). Quote
thetr20one Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I think the bait monkey is about to strike!!!! You will end up using two or three baits with utter confidence and fifty sitting in the tacklebox. Quote
CRFisher Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Thanks for the suggestions. I tend to have fishing ADD so I switch often but I've been trying to spend a day fishing one or two types of baits to get a good feel for them. Fished heavily as a kid so I had plenty of ideas when I got back in but no tackle. I figured if someone had a "go to" that I was missing I should add it. I've stayed away from deep cranks because i mostly fish rivers from shore. Depths can't be much more than 10' in the deepest areas I can reach. Quote
Aaron Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I would add some crankbaits in varying depths down to 10'. I prefer Bandits or Rapalas but whatever you want. I would get at least one Rapala DT-6 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 5, 2008 Super User Posted August 5, 2008 Here are some other suggestions: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 8-) Quote
daviscw Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 You will never have enough tackle IMO. You will never even FEEL like you have enough tackle. Quote
avid Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I have everyone of the baits you listed and more. Guess what? These days I rarely fish more than a dozen different baits. senko's, swim senko's, horny toads, rico popper, spinnerbaits, big ribbon tailed BPS worms, and ratltraps make up 90% of my fishing time. Add in trick worms, finesse worms, flukes, bagley crank, a LC pointer, and a spook and you've pretty much covered everything I throw. The other baits I own will get wet once in awhile and do catch fish, but simpler is better I have found. Quote
George Welcome Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Easier solution - Come to Floirida, fish with Avid, and use his. You have enough there to fish any lake in the country Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Big wake bait. slow fall swimbait Sinking swimbait Donate the rest to a good cause ;) Quote
djmax22 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 You have more than enough tackle to put bass in the boat, but it is always nice to develop confidence in new lures and techniques. Quote
gravyfor3 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 a good topwater option is a skitter pop. evening and night its killer on bass Quote
JShrock07 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 There is no possible way I could ever have too much tackle. I had all of my boxes full one day while preparing for a tournament and my fiance looked at me and told me I had a bunch of tackle and she doesn't understand why I am always at the store buying more tackle. I told her that it was funny that she mentioned it because I need to get more boxes because I do not have enough of one lure. So I told her to get ready and when we got to the store i ended up spending $200.00 on fishing stuff and $150 on her make-up. Who would have thought I would have to buy her something in order to get what I wanted. LOL If I ever have bait that is not working for me at the time I will give it to my little cousin since I am trying to get him into fishing and then when I take him and I open up my boxes of lures and use them he opens his and still outfishes me. Then he tell me that I should never have given the bait to him. LOL But it is nice to see him getting some fish. ;) Quote
Branuss04 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Big wake bait. slow fall swimbait Sinking swimbait Donate the rest to a good cause ;) LOL LBH, you've become quite the swimbait guru. Time to change your name. Gotta ad some sore of small swimbait to the list. 6" hudd, mission fish, etc. Quote
S I G M A Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 You will never have enough tackle IMO. You will never even FEEL like you have enough tackle. oh how true... you may never be "missing anything", but you'll always feel like you don't have enough Quote
