Hello My name is Ezekiel and I live in Montgomery county Maryland, I go fishing often to the local lakes for crappie and to the Potomac and monocacy as well. I'd like to start fishing the bay this year but I have little to no experience as to were to go. I usually go to the choptank on My buddy's boat but I can't get Him to take Me along every weekend and the choptank pier is not very appealing to Me since I need an extra long net to land most of the fish I catch, don't get Me wrong I love the variety but is it too much work to get them up. If anyone could give Me advice or info about other spots where I can just fish from the shore or a pier with the same results as the choptank but with out the hassle I'll appreciate it. I thought about Solomons since I really like the place but every time I went was on a charter so o idea where I could go and have good results from the shore.

Any help is appreciated.

get a pier gaff hook , basically a 20/0 treble hook that is weighted , then attached to a rope . that way you can "gaff" what you catch and don't have to break your rod with a decent fish by hauling it up from below

I'd opt for a pier net, not too expensive and you won't harm the fish if you choose to return it back to the water.  We use weighted trebles here for larger cuda over 35" ( people line up to take them home, great eating) but it's a 2 man, job rope gaff or net, and our pier is less than 10' high.

Fish the beach, you don't need any help or extra gear to land fish, get a rod spike if you plan on bait fishing.

Thank You for the tips.

I rather fish from the shore but I don't know of any good spots and instead of try and error I thought maybe someone already went through the same situation and know of good shore spots. Ocean city is 3 hours away from Me as opposed to choptank or solomons is only an hour and I know both rivers are good but I only fished from a boat and don't know any good shore spots.
